Did The Wolf of Wall Street movie make the Lamborghini Countach cool again? Definitely not, but it did use one of the oldest tricks in the book to make the Lamborghini scenes realistic. The producers for The Wolf of Wall Street had Leonardo DiCaprio crash a real Countach for the hit film.

Did they use a real Lamborghini Countach in The Wolf of Wall Street?

According to Motor1, Producers for the film did use a real 25th anniversary Lamborghini Countach to crash. The zany story of Jordan Belfort in the 1980s required a particular vehicle, like a white Lamborghini. To do that, a genuine 1988 Countach went under the knife, so to say. Belfort (portrayed by Leonardo DiCaprio) drove the Countach while high as a kite on quaaludes. It started the scene in pristine condition as he crawled in the door of the supercar.

But by the end of the scene, the vehicle had seen better days. To make it realistic, producers decided that a real supercar would have to be “crashed.” The front end was smashed and crashed for the most part, but none of it made the vehicle structurally unsound.

Since Belfort was a real person and the story was true (for the most part), it was essential for Martin Scorcese to use the real thing. Thus, the film took a real Lamborghini Countach and annihilated it for the drama.

Lamborghini Countach, but make it destroyed

The film itself was outrageous, so the rest of it had to match that. The pristine white Countach was an homage to the period of the story itself. What screams “1980s new money” like a white Lamborghini Countach? In the movie, Belfort thinks he made it home safely and heads off to bed, lacking fine motor skills. But when he wakes up in the morning, the Lamborghini supercar had been through a rough night – much like its driver.

It is entirely possible the movie crew took pieces off a crash Countach and fit the pieces on another car. That way, the broken parts could still be removed, and someone could resell the vehicle. To the internet’s knowledge, the Lamborghini Countach in The Wolf of Wall Street was never seen or sold after filming. That means there’s a chance someone still has it, or it sold without people knowing.

What car did Jordan Belfort drive in real life?

In real life, Belfort was fond of the Ferrari Testarossa. The white 1991 Testarossa went up for sale back in 2016, according to Classic Driver. Belfort purchased it new from a New York Ferrari dealership back in 1991. Since then, it has sold a few times but only has 8,000 miles on the odometer. When it went up for sale, it came with the original tools and matching luggage in the trunk. Right now, similar vehicles without quite an exciting history are selling around $110,000 with more miles.

You can assume that any Lamborghini Countach or Ferrari Testarossa touched by Belfort, DiCaprio, or Scorcese comes with a few extra stories.
