Today the exotic car automaker, Lamborghini, launched a new model. But, it is almost like they have run out of ideas since the launch of their Urus SUV. Nothing really new has been coming out lately. Today was no exception. The reveal was just another version of an already existing vehicle. I’m not usually critical of the fine brand, but this announcement from them was of the ho-hum boring variety.

The new model launched today is another version of the long-in-tooth Huracan. Lamborghini is an expert at getting fans to adore the company and its vehicles. When they put out cars as good as the Huracan, it is no wonder. So, the fans will love this new version. I, for one, also like it. But, I was expecting so much more. 

What happened to Lamborghini?

What has happened to Lamborghini? Is the company resting on its laurels? Has it fallen asleep at the wheel? The Urus brought a nice little boost of attention to the company. But, that vehicle was launched two years ago. The Huracan? Wait for it,… was launched in 2014. Lamborghini has been refining it for six years. Six years! It does not end there, though, because the Aventador has been around since 2011. Ugh. 

The new model

Enough of my rant. Let’s discuss the model that was revealed today. The curtain opened on the Lamborghini Huracan EVO Rear-Wheel Drive Spyder. It is an open-air version of the V10 road monster that has been optimized with lightweight engineering and a tuned “Performance Traction Control System”. Specially designed Pirelli P Zero tires keep the can as glued as it can be to the road considering the vehicle is a V10 rear-wheel drive vehicle. 

Exterior

The exterior of the Huracan EVO Rear-Wheel Drive Spyder receives a new front splitter and fins within the air intakes. The rear bumper and diffuser are updated as well. The top of this two-seat cabin comes off and is stowed in 17 seconds, even at speeds up to 30 miles per hour, and will be available in a range of color options. 

Interior

For those that do not want to hear the wind in their hair, or the sound of the growling symphony of the V10, Apple CarPlay is available to play your tunes. In fact, Lamborghini says that the car has comprehensive connectivity through an 8.4-inch infotainment touchscreen control center in the vehicle that allows for telephone calls and internet access as well. To which, I say, why? Wouldn’t a driver prefer to listen to the transmission shift and the sweet V10 response instead of a radio, telephone, or anything the internet can provide? But, I digress. 

As has become customary in the exotic car market, Lamborghini is offering buyers the opportunity to use their Lamborghini Ad Personam program. This will allow purchasers to personalize their car with “virtually limitless color and trim options.” So, if you desire a Lamborghini that is uniquely you, this is your opportunity.

Go ahead, configure it

If you would desire a more standard approach, and like to spend an endless amount of time getting the Lamborghini of your dreams exactly the way you want it, the configurator is live on their site. But no pricing information is available as of yet in the configurator. Nor is there a time frame in Lamborghini’s announcement of when the first deliveries are expected to occur. 

All in all, it is another nice car from Lamborghini. But, it is just another Huracan. The spice and fireworks are fading for this model line. Introducing special versions of existing vehicles ad nauseam will not last too much longer before people get bored and start to forget the Lamborghini brand. The Urus is a two-year-old bright spot, but another Huracan is boring.
