Lamborghini Sells 20,000 Huracan Models, a New Record for the Company
Lamborghini is really having a moment right now. The iconic supercar manufacturer is receiving massive amounts of orders. So much so that new Lamborghini buyers are in for a one-year wait for delivery of their new car. This has also sent used Lambo prices through the roof, with some people paying 140% of MSRP for secondhand supercars. Though the Urus SUV is the Italian staple’s top seller, the Huracan just set an all-time record.
The Huracan is now the first Lamborghini to hit 20,000 units
According to Motor1, a matte gray Lamborghini Huracan Super Trofeo Omologata on its way to Monaco is the 20,000th Huracan made. This marks a new record for the Huracan and for Lamborghini in general. No other Lamborghini model has reached this production milestone.
The massive sales of the Huracan can partly be attributed to the various “remixes” the model has seen. Since its debut for the 2014 model year, Lamborghini has introduced 12 different variants of the V10 powerhouse. Additionally, an off-road-oriented 13th variant is on the way.
From the Nurburgring lap record-setting Huracan Performante to the hardcore aero wearing STO built for the track, there are now 20,000 Huracans on the world’s roads. At least, there was. Thanks to the ones that drivers have wrecked, one has to imagine there’s a decent dent out of that number.
The Huracan replaced the Gallardo and immediately began dominating its sales numbers. The Gallardo’s ten-year reign from 2003 to 2013 landed a production of 14,022 vehicles. However, the Huracan managed to best that production number by its fifth year in 2019.
The most recent Huracan variant, the Tecnica, features the same powerplant as the STO. However, it’s a bit less aggressive in terms of styling and ride quality. The Tecnica serves as a middle ground between the more road-going EVO and the STO.
The off-road-ready Huracan Sterrato will be the final non-electrified V10 Lamborghini. Who’s to say that the Huracan won’t stick around? It’s very plausible that Lamborghini will keep the namesake around even through hybrid and EV models due to the popularity. They’ve done crazier things!
The Urus is not far behind
The Huracan undoubtedly came out swinging in terms of sales volume. However, it can’t hold a candle to the Lamborghini Urus, the company’s SUV.
In 2021, the Urus hit a milestone of its own, cracking a production number of 15,000. Though it’s still 5,000 short of the Huracan’s milestone, it took only three years. Furthermore, Lamborghini typically sells upward of 4,000 Urus examples a year. So, it’s relatively likely that by late 2022 or early 2023, the Urus will overtake the Huracan as the most-sold Lamborghini in history.
Every supercar enthusiast, then, will have to sigh. It’ll undoubtedly spark some controversy for the legendary supercar manufacturer’s record-holder to be an SUV.
Ultimately, the sales record of the Huracan is nothing to scoff at. When you consider the price and prestige involved with Lamborghini, it’s pretty crazy to think that 20,000 have sold. One has to imagine Lamborghini would have never foreseen such production volumes when the mid-engine Miura launched the supercar showdown. According to Motor1, only around 700 Miuras were ever made, so the thought of 20,000 Lamborghinis would likely seem like an impossible pipe dream.
