There’s nothing worse than waking up to find your Lamborghini in flames. It might feel like a dream as you wipe the sleep from your eyes, but it’s real. Or it could be real for some Lamborghini Urus drivers. Though no vehicles have caught fire as of this writing, Auto Evolution reports there’s a risk of the Urus catching fire, and a recall will soon be issued to deal with the problem.

There’s nothing like a Lamborghini Urus

For anyone who loves speed but hates contorting their body to fit into a two-seat supercar, the Lamborghini Urus is the perfect solution. There’s tons of room, and its 641 hp 4.0-liter turbocharged V8 engine gives it an insane burst of speed that doesn’t come naturally to SUVs.

Even better is the fact that the Urus can go off-road. While many off-road vehicles sacrifice on-road ability for the great outdoors, the Urus does no such thing. It may not be able to keep up with a Jeep Wrangler or a Mercedes-Benz G-Class, but the Urus can definitely hold its own. 

Sure, it comes with a price tag of $200,000, but that’s arguably not a bad price for perfection. For anyone who can overlook that amount without feeling lightheaded, they probably think they’re getting a great SUV. But there’s a small problem.

What do you mean my Lamborghini Urus is on fire?

According to the NHTSA, no actual fires have been reported. There’s simply the potential risk of fire due to a fuel leak. 

The full explanation from the NHTSA states, “A fuel leak in the presence of an ignition increases the risk of fire.” The NHTSA further says, “High temperatures in the engine compartment may damage the fuel line quick connector, possibly resulting in a fuel leak.” 

Auto Blog reports the affected vehicles are the 2019-2020 Urus. The most obvious clue that your Urus might be at risk is a fuel odor in the engine compartment. There are 2,831 vehicles being recalled at this time. 

What do I do now?

After spending all that money on the Urus, it must be beyond frustrating to find out it has such a serious problem. This is the first U.S. recall of the Urus, though, so it’s hard to be too harsh. On the other hand, this is a serious issue. A fire could easily lead to the death of anyone in the car, and if the Urus is parked in a garage, an entire household could go up in flames. 

So the Volkswagen Group, the maker of the Urus, is not sitting around. Dealerships are set to be alerted this December 18, and owners with affected vehicles will be notified between December 18 and 31.

Owners can then have their Urus repaired free of charge. According to Auto Evolution, “Hungarian company Veritas AG is listed as the supplier of this component, and as you would expect, the remedy component is an improved design that promises not to fail at high operating temperatures. Both the fuel line and quick connector will be replaced at no charge to the owner, and dealers estimate the operation to be over in approximately one hour.”
