The Dodge Challenger and Charger have had a lasting impact on the landscape of modern muscle cars. From the rebirth of both namesakes to the outrageous wheelie-prone, 840-horsepower Dodge Challenger SRT Demon, the duo leaves little to be desired for die-hard fans. However, all good things must come to an end, and the Mopar muscle cars are no different; the marque will discontinue them after the 2023 model year. Still, the two aren’t going quietly but rather with special “Last Call” models. 

What cars will be discontinued in 2023?

Unfortunately for Mopar muscle car fans, it’s last call for the beloved Dodge Challenger and Charger. However, it is not the end of muscle car culture as we know it. Between Dodge, Chevrolet, and Ford, the used car market is swollen with preowned muscle cars that you’ll be able to drive for years. Moreover, the instant torque of electric vehicles (EVs) provides an exciting prospect for the future of muscle cars. 

Why is the Challenger being discontinued?

The auto industry is electrifying and experimenting with alternative energy sources, and Dodge isn’t immune to the times. The marque is discontinuing the duo to move forward with EVs like the Hornet. However, fanatics need not weep because Dodge will inevitably replace the Challenger and Charger in the EV age. Also, the Dodge is offering several Last Call models to celebrate the outgoing Mopars.   

What are the Last Call Challengers and Chargers?

Dodge will release six unique, special edition variants as a celebration of the past of the Dodge vehicles. It’s a fitting send-off, considering that this isn’t just a sendoff for the modern Charger sedan and land yacht Challenger but also for the classic namesakes of the 1960s and 1970s. Love or hate the transition into EVs, this is a momentous occasion in automotive history. 

In addition to the throwback Last Call models, Dodge promises a “last of its kind model.” According to The Drive, the swansong car will be a Challenger running on E85 gasoline. Also, it will likely make more ponies than the Dodge SRT Demon’s stratospheric 840 horsepower. While the gas-powered bruisers are on the way out, there’s still a bit to celebrate. 

Should you buy a Challenger or Charger before they’re gone?

Fortunately for fans, used Challengers and Chargers are commonplace, offering a library of traditional gas-powered engines. Better yet, plentiful preowned Hellcats offer performance bargains that will blast to 60 mph in well under 4.0 seconds on the way to over 200 mph. Furthermore, you can buy one of the Last Call models with an underhood plaque. Just be quick to snag one before they’re all gone.   

What’s next for Dodge?

Get excited; Dodge recently unveiled its concept for the Charger Daytona SRT EV. It is a two-door coupe EV with subtle aerodynamic features, an 800-volt “Banshee” propulsion system, and the first air channel exhaust system designed to give the car a soundtrack. Dodge is looking to use the technology to bring the muscle car into the electric age.
