Leaked: The 2022 Mazda CX-50 Design Photos May Reveal Secrets
This might be the closest you can get to a sneak peek of the 2022 Mazda CX-50. We’re pretty excited to see what the new Mazda CX-50 has to offer because it’s leading the way for the zoom-zoom revolution.
Is this the new 2022 Mazda CX-50?
According to Motor 1, design images of the 2022 Mazda CX-50 may have been leaked. The alleged patent images could serve as a preview of what to expect. However, these images haven’t been confirmed. Motor1 claims that the source is unknown.
But the CX-50 is expected to make its debut in November at the Los Angeles Auto Show. Then it will enter production by January 2022. So, even if these photos are false, at least we don’t have to wait much longer to get our hands on the real deal.
What to expect with the 2022 CX-50
The 2022 Mazda CX-50 will incorporate a familiar look. The sketches seem to be similar to videos and spy photos of the new SUV that we’ve seen so far. However, it’s been heavily covered by camouflage.
You can see the same horizontal headlights and slime LED horizontal LED strips mounted to the bumper as displayed in the spy video. The radar center is still in the center, and the shape of the quarter glass is similar to the outgoing CX-5. The corners of the taillight also seem to be the same. It may feature a new grille design and larger tires.
The CX-50 could incorporate a more prominent front and rear end as it’s expected to be a larger vehicle. It’s increasing passenger and cargo space. This will address the popular complaint about Mazda vehicles being too small, especially regarding the rear seat.
It could also have a better ride, thanks to the new longitudinal architecture. This is a unique platform for rear-wheel drive vehicles. But it will also support optional all-wheel drive. On that note, it’s important to mention that AWD could come standard.
While having standard AWD is an excellent perk, some people may be upset that they can’t purchase a cheaper front-wheel drive model.
Will the 2022 CX-50 have more power?
The 2022 Mazda CX-50 could have more power as a larger vehicle that will reportedly replace the Mazda CX-5. Two different inline-six engines have been in the works, and Mazda confirmed that they aren’t for the CX-5.
One of the engines is a Skyactiv-D diesel option, and the other has Mazda’s Skyactiv-X Spark Plug Controlled Compression Ignition (SPCCI) technology. Don’t be surprised if it goes electric as 48-volt mild hybrid and plug-in hybrid systems have been mentioned.
The Mazda CX-5 currently has a 2.5-liter four-cylinder engine with 187 hp and 186 lb-ft of torque. You can upgrade to the turbocharged 2.5-liter four-cylinder engine with 250 hp and 320 lb-ft of torque. The second engine offers plenty of power.
You can get started in a Mazda CX-5 for about $26,545. But because the CX-50 is expected to be larger with more power and standard AWD, it may cost more. We will keep you updated as we follow the clues for more information.
