LEAKED: The New Mazda CX-70 Brings Serious Heat
We’ve seen the Mazda CX-90, now it’s time for the Mazda CX-70 to make an introduction. Due to delays, the Mazda CX-70 was pushed back until 2024, but we still have some juicy news to get excited about.
How much power will the Mazda CX-70 have?
We got a hot tip from the California Air Resources Board (CARB) that the Mazda CX-70 will have the same engines as the larger Mazda CX-90. Get ready for gas-powered and hybrid variants.
The CX-90 has a standard 3.3-liter inline-six engine that works beside a 48-volt mild hybrid system to generate 280 hp and 313 lb-ft of torque. Upgrade to the 3.3 Turbo S variant for 340 hp and 369 lb-ft of torque.
With the CX-90 PHEV, you get a 2.5-liter four-cylinder engine that’s paired with an electric motor and a 17.8-kWh battery pack to provide 323 hp and 369 lb-ft of torque.
It has an estimated range of 26 miles on a single charge. With a charge, it gets an EPA-estimated 56 MPGe. The gas-powered CX-90 gets an EPA-estimated 24 mph in the city and up to 28 mpg on the highway.
All-wheel-drive comes standard and the engines are paired with an eight-speed automatic transmission.
These figures for the Mazda CX-70 could be different due to the difference in weight, size, suspension components, and tuning.
The three-row CX-90 accelerates from 0 to 60 mph in about 5.9 seconds. The smaller CX-70 could be a bit sportier. The CX-90 can tow up to 5,000 lbs and specs for the CX-70 haven’t been released.
When is the CX-70 coming out?
The 2024 Mazda CX-90 will debut in the early spring of 2024. It was originally supposed to come out by the end of 2023 but faces a few delays. That’s fine, because the CX-90 came out and won tons of wards, so it deserved time in the spotlight.
Rumors suggest that the CX-70 will be bigger than the CX-5, but smaller than the CX-90. It will also be a two-row vehicle but could have the same body as the CX-90.
It’s expected to be premium with luxury interior touches that aren’t included with smaller options in the lineup. Instead of having a third row, it may prioritize cargo space in the back.
Stay tuned for updates as we continue tracking the CX-70 and its progress.
