The 2022 Toyota Super Bowl commercial was everything a big game TV spot should be: funny, star-studded, and memorable. In “The Joneses,” Tommy Lee Jones (Men in Black), Leslie Jones (SNL), and Rashida Jones (Parks and Recreation) race one another while driving three very different 2022 Toyota Tundras. The adventure takes them from desert roads to snowy mountaintops. In the end, even, Nick Jonas joins them.

“The Joneses” opens with Western music while Tommy Lee Jones drives a truck down a deserted country road. He is wearing a work jacket and a black cowboy hat. An exterior shot reveals he is driving a brand new 2022 Toyota Tundra.

In the TV spot, Tommy Lee Jones is driving the Western-themed Toyota Tundra 1794 Edition. This upper-trim Tundra is resplendent with chrome trim, 1794 badges, and TRD Off-Road rims and tires. Tommy Lee Jones’ truck is finished in the trim level’s unique “Smoked Mesquite” metallic brown.

The interior of the 1794 Edition in the commercial is light-colored “Rich Cream” leather. It features American walnut wood trim branded with the 1794 Edition logo.

Toyota manufactures all its Tundras at a San Antonio factory. The factory is built upon a ranch that was founded in 1794. The name of its Western-inspired trim level honors this heritage.

Leslie Jones takes a 2022 Toyota Tundra TRD Pro off-road

The next shot of the commercial is a bright orange Toyota Tundra TRD Pro rolling up next to Tommy Lee Jones’ 1794 Edition. The driver, SNL’s Leslie Jones, looks at Tommy Lee and says, “What’s up, Jones.” He nods back at her, “Jones.”

Then the two Joneses race down the road and off the road. The song “It’s not unusual” by Tom Jones plays in the background. Soon, actor Rashida Jones joins the race.

Leslie Jones is driving a 2022 Toyota Tundra TRD Pro. This is the top trim of all performance-oriented Tundras. Toyota has yet to announce the new TRD Pro’s hefty price tag, but it should be even higher than the 1794 Edition’s. The only trim more expensive is the luxurious Capstone.

The TRD Pro features the i-FORCE MAX hybrid drivetrain which makes more torque than a Ford Raptor. It also has a factory lift, FOX racing shocks, selectable off-road driving modes, and trail cameras.

Rashida Jones appears to be driving a 2022 Toyota Tundra Limited in Army Green. When all the Joneses pause on a mountaintop, Nick Jonas pulls up alongside them. He appears to also be driving a Tundra Limited, but this one finished in Supersonic Red.

Toyota’s “The Joneses” TV commercial was created by the Saatchi & Saatchi advertising agency. It was directed by two-time Academy Award-nominated director, Bryan Buckley.

This was Toyota’s second Big Game advertisement, and it marks a momentous occasion. 2022 is the first model year of the third-generation Toyota Tundra. Toyota has been selling the second generation of its full-size truck since 2007.
