Formula 1 driver Lewis Hamilton made quite a splash last year when he vowed to give up his supercars. The F1 champ said that he would stick to electric vehicles only after announcing he was the new owner of an electric off-road series called Extreme E. However, just this week, Hamilton was seen driving his bright purple Pagani Zonda around.

Hamilton is known to have a supercar collection worth millions that he supposedly doesn’t drive anymore. He has been doing his best to be more environmentally friendly, which meant switching to electric vehicles. According to an old ESPN article, Hamilton said he only drives his electric Mercedes-Benz these days.

“Some of it’s education because not everyone knows the footprint that our sport currently has and what we’re doing in terms of trying to improve that. But I’m making a lot of changes in my personal life. I don’t drive any of the cars that I own any more. I only drive my [electric Mercedes] EQC.”

He is aware of the comments that Formula 1 isn’t exactly a sustainable sport. In fact, he has been vocal about how F1 cars are at odds with sustainability. The higher-ups agreed, noting that all F1 events would be sustainable by 2025.

The custom made Pagani Zonda 760 LH for Lewis Hamilton

Hamilton owns some of the vehicles include a Ferrari LaFerrari, Pagani Zonda, McLaren P1, and 1960s Shelby Cobra. He also owns a variety of Mercedes-Benz vehicles. But Hamilton drew a crowd this week when he pulled up in the purple Pagani Zonda 760 LH. Pagani made the Pagani Zonda 760 LH specifically for him.

The 760 LH is essentially a 760 RS with an AMG V12 engine producing 760 hp. It has a 0-62 mph time of 2.6 seconds and a top speed of 217 mpg. While this one is one-of-a-kind, Pagani made only three of the Pagani Zonda 760 series. The best part of the story? Hamilton was heading to a yacht to hang out with Samuel L. Jackson.

Formula 1 is currently on summer break, and the drivers are catching up on some much-needed rest. Or just hanging out with Samuel L. Jackson.

No matter how expensive it is, it doens’t handle the best

The funny part about the Pagani Zonda 760 LH is that Hamilton said he doesn’t exactly love driving the car. Back in 2018, he told The Sunday Times, “the Zonda is terrible to drive! It’s the best-sounding car I own, but handling-wise it’s the worst. I got it in manual because I didn’t like the Tiptronic version.”

He even compared it to the Smart Roadster, one of the smallest and silliest looking vehicles in Europe back in the early 2000s. He also told the magazine his dream car was a 1958 Ferrari 250GT California Spyder, like the one in Ferris Bueller’s Day Off. The Zonda is one of the rarest supercars ever made, so it makes sense Lewis Hamilton owns one.
