Toyota is well-known for how reliable its cars are, so unsurprisingly, Toyota’s luxury sister company, Lexus, also makes extremely reliable cars. Lexus owners tend to keep their cars for a long time due to how reliable they are, and this trend continues in 2020. Here’s a look at the three Lexus cars that defied the trend of unreliable luxury cars.

Lexus is the only reliable luxury brand

According to Consumer Reports, based on data from over 420,000 cars, the 10 most reliable cars were all from Asian automakers. Toyota and Lexus combined had six cars on the list, with three cars coming from Toyota and three cars coming from Lexus. Mazda also had three cars on the list, including first place with its MX-5 Miata, and Hyundai rounded out the list with its Kona. 

While all four of these brands are Asian, only one of them makes luxury cars, and that’s Lexus. This means that, compared to other luxury brands, Lexus is simply more reliable.

This isn’t surprising since BMW, which makes the famous 3-Series, has a lot of issues with reliability. The 3-Series, for example, is not very reliable, and when it breaks down, it costs the owner a lot of money to fix.

The Lexus GX

The Lexus GX came in at fourth place in terms of its reliability, according to Consumer Reports. With a price tag that starts at $53,000, the GX is an SUV that’s pretty good overall. Consumer Reports gave it an overall rating of 79 out of 100, which makes it the sixth-best SUV in its class. 

It really shined in terms of reliability though. It had a reliability score of 91, which made it the most reliable luxury car on the market right now. Consumer Reports said that the GX only had two areas that weren’t extremely reliable. Those areas had to do with the GX’s in-car electronics and its fuel system. 

The Lexus NX

The Lexus NX came in at seventh place in terms of its reliability, and, in general, it was pretty similar to the GX, which is its bigger sibling. The NX starts at about $37,000, and it’s a pretty good SUV overall, according to Consumer Reports.

It had an overall rating of 80 out of 100, which makes it the second-best SUV in its class. Part of the reason why it scores so well is, just like the Lexus UX, the NX can use a hybrid engine, which gives it very good fuel economy.

In terms of its reliability, it has a score of 89, which isn’t far away from the GX’s score. Like the GX, the NX is reliable in most areas. The one area of the car that had less reliability than usual, was, once again, its in-car electronics. 

The Lexus GS

Finally, rounding out the list at tenth place is the GS. Unlike the GX or the NX, the GS is a sedan and not an SUV. Still, it starts at $51,000, and Consumer Reports said that it’s a pretty good car. It has an overall rating of 87 out of 100, which makes it the fourth-best car in its class.

It is in tenth place for reliability, but it’s still good, since it scored 87 for it. Unlike the other two Lexus cars, the GS did have a few more trouble spots. Its in-car electronics, its brakes, and its exhaust were less reliable than usual.

That said, its exhaust was significantly less reliable compared to everything else. But still, it’s more reliable than most other luxury cars on the market.
