Lexus Surprises With This GX Overland Luxury Camping Concept
Even when you want to get away from it all you still would like a bit of the convenience you’re getting away from. Lexus knows this and so has surprisingly come up with this real-world camping concept. It’s called the 2020 460 GX Overland built from-you guessed it, its 460 GX SUV.
The Lexus Canadian division wanted something for the upcoming Montreal International Auto Show. It saw that luxury combined with camping in the wilderness are not mutually exclusive. Admit it-you’d still like some of those conveniences of home when you’re roughing it.
It’s a 2020 460 GX luxury camping concept that can handle the extreme
So, the folks there fashioned this slick luxury camping concept. But, don’t be fooled, it can handle extreme off-road and overland treks. It starts with a 2020 Executive Package 460 GX. It lifted the suspension using Icon Vehicle Dynamics race suspension components. Remote reservoirs and billet control arms with Delta joints are the main features of the Icon gear.
Knobby Toyo off-road 33-inch tires are mounted on black aftermarket wheels. Also obvious is the pale shade of blue with topographical map graphics highlighting the rear sides of the GX. In the rear, there’s a massive spare tire carrier that swings away for access to the back.
The CBI stealth bumper winch ties in nicely with the massive grille on the 2020 GX Overland
For some added protection CBI skid plates are used underneath and CBI rock rails preserve the sides. The front slider ties in nicely with a CBI stealth front bumper winch. It actually helps to break up that massive, almost silly front grille. That grille is new for 2020 as are the headlights.
A deployable tent is mounted on the roof. It incorporates an extended awning and also a shower cube to maintain freshness in the wilderness. Inside of the GX is red leather seats combined with black door panels. Dual entertainment screens are incorporated for rear passengers.
Just some of 2020 460 GX Overland options are Lexus Multi-Terrain Select and Crawl Control
The drivetrain remains stock with plenty of power from the 4.6-liter V8 cranking 301 hp and 329 lb-ft of torque. A six-speed automatic with full-time four-wheel-drive completes the drivetrain. Lexus Multi-Terrain Select and Crawl Control features are also options featured on this concept GX.
You can also order a GX with a transmission cooler, fuel tank protector, and Multi-Terrain Monitor and Panoramic View Monitors. Though GX starting prices are around $53,000, a maxed-out version will run close to $80,000. That’s a lot of cha-cha for beating around the bushes.
The best part about the Lexus 460 GX luxury camping concept is that you could build one just like it
Maybe the best part of this concept is that it is completely do-able for the off-road or camping enthusiast. Lexus is even part of the FJ Summit which is an event for Toyota off-road enthusiasts. Its GXOR group is for loyal GX 470 and 460 off-roaders.
Camping and off-roading with luxury trailblazers is a new market for the aftermarket. We’re seeing more products each week, so there will definitely be more Lexus components available to personalize your rig. We look forward to seeing more luxury takes on the 460 GX coming down the pike.
