Just like Harry Styles and Lizzo are trending with the songs of the summer, Honda is hitting it big with its own best-selling SUV of the summer. But so are Chevy, Hyundai, Kia, and Nissan by sales. What makes a song of the summer great is that it appeals to a lot of people, has an irresistible hook, and the video makes you feel like you want to play it loud at the beach. Many of the same things apply with a small SUV; it has to look good, make you feel good and is something you want to drive to the beach. So, as Lizzo would say, “It’s about time,” some of these SUVs started trending.
2022 Honda CR-V
It makes sense that the 2022 Honda CR-V is trending this summer. According to car sales tracker GoodCarBadCar, Honda’s CR-V is the small SUV sales leader this summer. It makes sense, too, because an all-new CR-V is coming for 2023 with a third row, a new hybrid drive, and a likely price increase. So, the 2022s are flying off the lots. There are plenty of reasons to buy a 2022 Honda CR-V. The 2022 starts at $27,750 in two-wheel-drive LX trim. The only change for the 2022 model was that all-wheel drive became standard on the most expensive CR-V trim, the Touring. For all other models, it’s a $1,500 option. The Hybrid starts at $30,960.
The five-seat 2022 Honda CR-V comes standard with the Honda Sensing suite of driver-assist and safety tech, as well as a 1.5-liter turbocharged engine. The interior of the CRV is also a nice place to spend some time, especially in Touring trim. But even the base models have a well-laid-out dash, premium plastics, and supportive seats.
2022 Chevy Equinox
The 2022 Chevrolet Equinox is the second-best selling SUV this summer and starts at $25,800, but that base trim is only available as a special order. You’re more likely to find the LT version on your dealer’s lot. The LT comes with a long list of standard features such as an eight-way power driver seat, body-color trim, and more.
For 2022 the Equinox gets an RS package. The RS used to stand for Rally Sport, but that means it adds a sporty touch to the Equinox. The RS has larger wheels, a leather-wrapped steering wheel, dual-zone climate control, as well as some driver safety aids. The Premier has a hands-free power liftgate, fog lamps, memory settings, and a larger eight-inch infotainment screen.
2022 Hyundai Tucson
The Hyundai Tucson comes in at No. 3 this summer. For 2022, the Tucson got a bump in power, more cargo space, more legroom, and it has a lot going for it. The 2022 Hyundai Tucson scores at a low price. It starts at $26,135 for its base trim. It comes in a beach-friendly hybrid version and has a strong 2.5-liter four-cylinder engine that can put out 187 hp. If you want all-wheel drive, you’ll have to shell out an additional $1,400.
The starting price of the 2022 Tucson ranges from $24,950 MSRP for the SE trim to $43,200 MSRP for the Plug-In Hybrid Limited trim.
2022 Kia Sportage
Much like the CR-V, an updated new Sportage is coming for 2023, so that means that a 2022 Sportage is a great deal at dealers as they’re trying to sell them before the new ones arrive. The 2023 will be bigger, more powerful, and more efficient, but the 2022 packs a lot of value. We like the sporty 2022 Kia Sportage GT. The base engine for the Sportage is a 2.4-liter four-cylinder option with 181 hp and 175 lb-ft of torque. But you can upgrade to the 2.0-liter turbo four-cylinder engine for 240 hp and 260 lb-ft of torque. That’s an impressive amount of muscle for a little small SUV.
The 2022 Sportage also packs a lot of style for $24,090 with funky LED lights on the front and an interior that looks far better than its low base price would suggest.
2022 Nissan Rogue
The Nissan Rogue scores at the fifth-best selling small SUV slot this summer. The 2022 Nissan Rogue starts at $26,700 for the front-wheel drive in S trim. It is offered in SV, SL, and Platinum versions. The top-level Platinum is $36,480. All-wheel drive is a $1,500 option on any trim. Three displays are available: a full-color 10.8-inch head-up display, a 12.3-inch Digital Dashboard gauge cluster and large, and a floating 9.0-inch touch screen. A heads-up display is also an option for $400 on the Platinum.
Nissan’s Safety Shield 360 is standard on the 2022 Nissan Rogue. It has a variety of safety aids, like automatic braking and cross-traffic alert, and lane departure warning.
