We have some exciting yet disappointing news about the Ford Explorer. First of all, it’s time to celebrate its 30th anniversary. However, doing so will be easier in China because the Ford Explorer 30th Anniversary Edition is limited to that country. 

Why isn’t the Ford Explorer 30th Anniversary Edition in America?

It’s not fair to keep the Ford Explorer 30th Anniversary Edition away from fans. Drivers in the United States have loved this SUV since it launched in 1990 for the 1991 model year. But it became popular across the globe, not only in America. 

It technically turned 30 last year, but we didn’t get the special edition. Also, the special edition is limited to 600 units, so they will sell out pretty quickly. But what’s the point of keeping its anniversary so small? 

Also, the Explorer is slightly different in China. It has a different look, but it’s hard to pinpoint the differences. The headlights are a little larger, and the grille design is shaped differently. China is getting a refreshed Ford Expedition model soon that we won’t get either. 

What comes with the Explorer 30th Anniversary Edition? 

According to Ford Authority, the Ford Explorer 30th Anniversary Edition has a red ‘Warrior’ badge on the back. It also has red-painted side mirror caps, red accents in the front and on the door sills, power running boards, a roof rack, and exclusive wheel designs. 

It is well equipped for adventuring with skid plates and AWD. It has driving modes for sand, snow, towing, and more. But we aren’t sure which engine comes with this model. Hopefully, it has the muscle to back up its confident look. 

The 3.0-liter V6 engine cranks out up to 400 hp and 415 lb-ft of torque. The standard 2.4-liter four-cylinder engine provides 300 hp and 310 lb-ft of torque. But the engine options could be different in China. 

Reportedly, the price would be about $50,500 in America. This means that the trim would slot between the exciting Explorer ST and luxurious King Ranch models. Both of those options have the more powerful engine. 

We can assume that the interior is unique and luxurious, with red accents and leather-wrapped surfaces. This powerful SUV can be equipped with 10.1-inch vertically oriented screen, a rear-seat entertainment system, and a 12-speaker Bang & Olufsen stereo system. 

What’s new for the American Explorer? 

It’s hard not to be disappointed over missing out on the Ford Explorer 30th Anniversary Edition, but maybe something exciting will happen in America. The 2023 Ford Explorer is expected to have a slight redesign. 

The refreshed model might be delayed until 2024, and rumors suggest that the new face will be limited to other countries. Also, it’s possible that a PHEV model is in the works. It could match the Ford Escape’s PHEV range of 37 miles. 

We wouldn’t mind if the infotainment screen received an update. Also, it would be nice if more standard safety features were included. We will keep an eye out for updates and can’t wait to test the Timberline and ST trims. 

Until then, we left wondering why China is getting a cool special edition that we can’t have! We want to be one with the Warrior Explorer.
