With SUVs continually growing in popularity, it’s easy to become overwhelmed with options. Fortunately for anyone shopping for a 3-row luxury SUV, though, this decision might actually be a bit easier to make. Lincoln SUVs nabbed the top three spots in Carfax’s list of Best 3-Row Luxury SUVs of 2020, an impressive feat that definitely sets the brand apart from the competition. Let’s explore what’s so special about the Lincoln Aviator, Navigator, and Navigator L.

How does Carfax choose the best luxury SUVs?

Since there are so many impressive luxury SUVs to choose from, Carfax takes a number of different factors into consideration when ranking the best options. Reviewers look at the vehicle’s cargo space, legroom, fuel economy, safety scores, and power, as well as the features that come included. It is with these factors in mind that Carfax chose three Lincoln SUVs to fill the top three spots on the list.

Carfax will also take price into consideration, ranking SUVs higher if they have more offerings at a lower cost. Ultimately, the six key features that every SUV needs to offer in order to be included on this list are all-wheel drive, automatic transmission, Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, blind-spot monitoring, and automatic emergency braking.

Size and efficiency from the Lincoln Navigator and Navigator L

Technically, the Lincoln Navigator L is just a subset of the Navigator. The only significant differences between the two are size and cost. As the Navigator L is the extended-length version of the Navigator, its max cargo space is 120.3 cubic feet compared to the standard Navigator’s 103.4 cubic feet. And with key features included, the Navigator L comes in at $89,540, while the Navigator is $80,795.

No matter which version you opt for, you’ll be getting plenty of cabin space. Carfax ranks both of these Lincolns in the top five for headroom and legroom, stating that the seating space is notable for the class and that the cargo space “approaches that of some minivans.”

The Navigator and Navigator L feature a twin-turbo 3.5-liter V6 engine that makes 450 hp, which is about average for the class. Where these Lincolns really shine is fuel economy: they get an estimated 18 miles per gallon combined, which is impressive in a segment that doesn’t typically prioritize fuel efficiency.

The Navigator has excellent safety ratings, earning a 5/5 on NHTSA crash tests. Standard safety features include automatic high beams, forward collision warning, and rear cross-traffic alert.

The high-tech Lincoln Aviator

The Lincoln Aviator is smaller than the Navigator, with a max cargo space of just 77.7 cubic feet. Even so, this SUV landed the top spot on Carfax’s list. With key features included, the Aviator has a $55,340 price tag — significantly lower than both the Navigator and the Navigator L.

The Lincoln Aviator is all new for 2020, and comes with a twin-turbo 3.0-liter V6 engine that makes 400 hp. It has a maximum towing capacity of 6,700 pounds.

This SUV features Lincoln’s first electrified powertrain, making it immediately stand out from the crowd. It is also packed with impressive technology. A 12.3-inch digital instrument panel comes standard, as does a 10.1-inch touch screen, mobile Wi-Fi, and Bluetooth. Optional tech includes a navigation system and Amazon Alexa compatibility.

The Lincoln Aviator, Navigator, and Navigator L are all exceptional luxury SUVs with comfortable interiors and high-quality technology. Folks looking for more space would likely be happier with one of the Navigators, while anyone looking for a lower price tag should strongly consider the Aviator. Each of these Lincolns has its own strengths, and it’s difficult to go wrong with any of them.
