This probably isn’t a surprise, but the Toyota Tacoma is the longest-lasting truck in its class. A new report from iSeeCars lists the Tacoma as one of the top vehicles that will make it to 250,000 miles and beyond.

The Tacoma is in seventh place with a 41.7% chance of making it over 250,000 miles. It is about 35 times more likely to make it to 250,000 miles than the average vehicle. Plus, it’s up there with some big options.

Literally, it ranks up there with the Ford F-350 Super Duty, Toyota Sequoia, Toyota Land Cruiser, Toyota Tundra, and Ford F-250. If you haven’t gotten the gist already, Toyota seems to be dominating this list. Toyota models take up over half the spots on the list.

But there are a few options missing, such as every other midsize truck. The Chevy Colorado, Ford Ranger, GMC Canyon, Honda Ridgeline, and Nissan Frontier didn’t make the list which includes 23 vehicles.

To discover the longest-lasting vehicles, iSeeCars analyzed over 260 million vehicles sold between 2012 and 2022. The average odometer reading was calculated for each vehicle based on yearly age.

Then a proprietary model based on the average mileage was developed to estimate the probability of each vehicle surviving various high-mileage thresholds.

How many miles will a Tacoma last?

The average Toyota Tacoma model is expected to make it between 200,000 to 300,000 miles. It should reach 200,000 miles before severe problems occur. But proper maintenance and regular care help it keep going past 300,000 miles.

It’s even possible the Tacoma to reach 400,000 miles, and there’s one example that made it to 1.5 million miles. Typically, a Tacoma is considered to be high-mileage once it reaches 100,000 miles, but it still could have tons of life left. Be sure to review its history before buying!

If you drive an average of 10,000 to 15,000 miles per year, then your Tacoma could provide about 20 to 25 years of service on the road.

It costs about $441 to maintain the Toyota Tacoma annually. This is below average compared to the average yearly maintenance cost of about $650 for other vehicles.

What are the best-used Tacoma years?

The best-used Toyota Tacoma model for tons of savings is the 2005 model. It’s more reliable than the 2024 model and can be found for a pretty low price. The first generation is extremely durable. Just be sure to check for rust damage.

Also, the 2013 and 2014 model years have a high-reliability rating. These models are also more affordable but are lacking modern tech and safety features. Avoid the 2015 Tacoma from this generation.

The 2018 and 2019 models are two of the most reliable models from the current generation. It was updated for 2016. Also, the 2022 Tacoma has a high reliability ranking with hardly any complaints.

We can’t wait to see if the 2024 Toyota Tacoma will maintain the tradition of being incredibly reliable, capable, and durable. Stay tuned for the latest updates.
