The 2023 Cadillac Escalade V could be the last big V8 super SUV from Cadillac. The brand is saying that it’s going all-electric in the next few years. But, wow, is it going out with a bang and a growl. To make the new Escalade V, Cadillac pretty much transplanted the new Corvette’s supercharged V8 into the SUV to make a 5,600-pound high-performance SUV. And, man, does it sound amazing.

Without anybody trying to tell you about the specs, or quirks, of the new 2023 Cadillac Escalade V SUV, you can hear one of the last great V8s do it’s thing. At 0:32 the sound of a full-bore launch is amazing. At 1:42 you can hear the 2023 Escalade V at full-blast passing. But, you don’t always want to sound like you’re in the middle of turn two at Indianapolis, so Cadillac has created variable engine sounds in the Escalade V. At 1:13 you can see what happens to the monster’s growl when you turn on Stealth mode.

The 2023 Cadillac Escalade V is a $150,000 Escalade that combines all of the luxury of ‘Slade with the heart of a ‘Vette. The interior is the same as the Platinum. You get an understated, luxurious, dark brown or black interior. The exterior doesn’t scream “High Performance!” There’s no fake carbon-fiber or goofy boy-racer trim packages and hood scoops that other high-performance SUVs think they need to advertise their horsepower: we’re looking at you, Dodge.

The 2023 Cadillac Escalade V has the latest version of the 6.2-liter V8 that you can get in lesser SUVs from General Motors and will hit dealers soon. You can get it in the GMC Yukon Denali. But not like this. For Cadillac duty, GM slapped a supercharger on the motor and pumped its horsepower from 420 to 682 horsepower. That’s more than a Lamborghini Urus.  All of that power is routed through a 10-speed automatic and can, reportedly, get the giant three-row SUV to 60 mph in 4.4 seconds.

Could this be Cadillac’s last great V8 SUV?

Cadillac is going all-electric soon. The brand has promised that it won’t sell any new internal combustion vehicles after 2029. While V8s are great, they’re no match for modern electric powertrains for making instant power and torque. GM has invested heavily in electric-vehicle infrastructure and Cadillac will get the new Lyriq for 2023. The $63,000 Lyriq will be all-wheel drive, have and have a 312-mile range. We know it will be quick, but we also know it will sound nothing like the V8 in the 2023 Cadillac Escalade V.
