Litchfield Tuning Package Gives 911 Turbo S Almost 800 Horsepower
The Porsche 911 Turbo S is a frighteningly fast car. From the factory, it develops 641 horsepower and 590 pound-feet of torque. Combined with its all-wheel drive system and iconic aerodynamic engineering, that power makes for quite the performance. It can sprint from zero to 60 mph in 2.7 seconds and go on to a top speed of 205. Nobody could possibly think they need more, right?
Litchfield tunes aim to squeeze as much as possible out of a car
Iain Litchfield is the owner of Litchfield Motors. It’s a UK-based automotive tuning company with aspirations for creating insanely powerful versions of already fast cars. So, despite the term “insanely fast” almost not being adequate to describe a Porsche 911 of any kind, it’s appropriate that Litchfield takes this icon on.
According to Top Gear, Litchfield is known for creating mad R35 Nissan GT-Rs and BMW M cars. However, the company’s tuning efforts took aim at Porsche high-performance vehicles more recently. The results are nothing short of jaw-dropping.
With Litchfield’s tuning and tweaking, the 992 Porsche 911 Turbo S now makes an astonishing 730 horsepower. What’s even more remarkable is the fact that it uses a completely unmodified engine, transmission, and drive train. Effectively, the only modifications Litchfield makes are upping the turbo boost pressure and re-tuning the ECU maps to accommodate it. Though it does void the Porsche warranty, Litchfield provides a three-year protection plan in its place.
Even more outlandish, though, is the fact that this isn’t their highest power package. Going to their Stage two package bumps the power again to 770 horsepower. With standard road tires, the Litchfield Stage two Turbo S spun all four tires throughout first and second gear at a drag strip. In spite of this, the car still put down a mind-melting pass in just 9.7 seconds. That is downright obscene.
It still drives like a standard Porsche 911 Turbo
Perhaps the most remarkable part of the Litchfield treatment, though, is its driving characteristics. According to Ollie Kew of Top Gear, the Litchfield car feels perfectly normal until you put your foot down.
“It leaves everything we like about the current Turbo S intact and just makes it stupidly quick. Hypercar quick. The carbon-ceramic brakes remain up to the job of slowing the whole runaway train down. On corner exit, it has a more rear-driven agility than older 911 Turbos – it’s a bit more alive beneath you, “ wrote Kew.
When you do decide to put your foot in it, though, things get hairy fast. Kew wrote that the car happily spins all four tires on dry pavement with no issue. Additionally, he states that the acceleration is so rapid that you’ll only fixate on upcoming turns and how much braking you’ll have to do for them. The 911 Turbo S is already quite a handful in terms of acceleration. Adding wheelspin into the mix with a bunch of extra power is both frightening and exciting to think about.
Overall, the Litchfield Turbo S is amazing. Combining this tremendous power and performance with an entirely unmodified exterior makes it a stealthy party on wheels.
