Live Your Dream On The Road In Tommy Bahama Airstream Van
The pandemic is making us all a little crazy, and wishing we could be anywhere but in our homes. Not that our homes were ever bad but day-in and day-out it is making us want to have our in-house office on the road. Like in a camper or RV. Or something like this Tommy Bahama Airstream camping van would be nice.
Yeah, parked by the Colorado River with a view while we toil away doing whatever we do for the cha-cha. Or deep in the Sequoias with the smell of pine and tall trees everywhere-as long as there is internet access! So let’s take a look at what our daily jobs would be like from the inside (or outside) of this slick Airstream trailer.
The Airstream is technically the Tommy Bahama Interstate Touring Coach
This is technically the Tommy Bahama Interstate Touring Coach. These start off with a Mercedes Sprinter 2500 with its 3.0-liter V6 turbo diesel engine. Towing capacity from the 188 hp unit is 5,000 lbs with a GVWR of just over 9,000 lbs.
Interior dimensions are 19-feet, 5-inches; width is 6-feet, 7-inches, with available height at 6.2-inches. That means an average-sized human can get around inside the cabin without having to hunch over. Always a good thing.
To keep you in the woods for at least a few days the freshwater tank holds 21 gallons, the gray water tank has a 16-gallon capacity, and for black water, there is a 9-gallon tank. Now that the specs are out of the way let’s take a look inside.
We especially like the wet bar and stocked liquor cabinet on display
Three floor plans are available depending on your needs. We especially like the one with the wet bar and stocked liquor cabinet on display. You know, for after we’re done working 12 hours or so. There are many highlights and features but we’ll just give the Cliff notes.
Right off, everything that converts like the bed is electrically operated. Real wood and suede tapestry are in abundance, which is not always the case in campers. Lighting is all LED for less energy draw, and even the window shades are power operated. Solar panels are also available for that extra bit of clean living.
The Airstream dining area seats up to six in two separate areas
Kitchens come with a two-burner cooktop with a refrigerator, freezer, and sink. The dining area seats up to six in two separate areas. Three others can also be seated at the rear of the camper. All three floor plans only allow sleeping for two, which is a fold-down bench at the rear. The bathroom is European-style with a toilet, shower, sink and faucet, towel rack, and articulating mirror.
Of course, none of this comes cheap. Still, you’re starting off with a Mercedes so that’s something. The base model goes for $169,520. The two higher-optioned models are at $200,634 each. So yeah, it’s a lot of change to get into one of these. But at what cost is your mental health worth? Plus you’re using it as an office so there is some write-off factored into the bottom line. We say go for it and don’t forget to send us a postcard, or text.
