Fans of Jeep were thrilled to learn there are some special additions of the Gladiator being released. One, known as the Texas Trail, is only available in Texas. For those living in the Lone Star state, this may seem like a dream come true, but before you purchase the 2022 Jeep Gladiator Texas Trail, you may want to check to see if the showy upgrades are worth the price increase.

The standard 2022 Jeep Gladiator Sport is a little expensive

Jeep reports the MSRP for the standard Gladiator Sport 4×4 is $36,480, which is a little pricey for what’s offered. You get a few decent features for this price, such as a 3.6L V6 engine, a 6-speed manual transmission, and the ability to tow up to 4,000 lbs. There isn’t a ton of tech, but a 7.0-inch touch screen with Uconnect, Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, Bluetooth, a remote USB port, and a free trial of SiriusXM Guardian comes standard.

For those willing to spend a little extra, you can get features such as power heated mirrors, a door-off mirror kit by Mopar, and a trailer hitch zoom. 

There are little to no sought-after safety features. For example, you can’t upgrade to the security alarm, blind-spot monitoring, cross-path detection, or rear parking assist. 

Even more unusual for a vehicle manufactured in 2022 is that you can’t get powered locks or windows. Of course, it was a while before Jeep even offered air conditioning on some models, so that’s not too unusual for this manufacturer.

The 2022 Jeep Gladiator Texas Trail gets a significant price hike

While the price for the 2022 Jeep Gladiator is probably too much for what’s offered, the Texas Trail addition gets a considerable price hike without providing much more. Kelley Blue Book reports the MSRP for this trim is a shocking $43,455. That’s a price hike of nearly $10K.

So what added features does $10K get you? According to Car and Driver, you’ll get 17-inch black aluminum wheels, and 32-inch mud-terrain tires, black-trimmed leather seats with the Texas Trail logo embossed onto the seats, a black leather-wrapped steering wheel and a decal on the hood. That’s it.

It’s important to note this limited edition Gladiator is based on the Jeep Gladiator Sport S trim, which is a step above the Sport trim, so there are a few extra goodies for this price like side steps, a black hardtop, and the option to upgrade to a diesel 3.0-liter V-6 engine. Still, the MSRP for the Gladiator Sport S is $39,880, so you’re paying $3,575 more. 

There are other special editions of the Jeep Gladiator

For those living outside of Texas, unless you’re willing to make the drive down, you’re probably not going to be cruising around in the Texas Trail Gladiator. However, there are other special editions of the Jeep Gladiator.

The Willys Sport, named after the Willys-Overland Motor Company, which would eventually become Jeep, can be yours for an MSRP of $38,580. It adds features such as rock rails, a black grille, black accents, Willys hood decals, track-lock limited-slip rear differential, and 17-inch black wheels with 32-inch mud-terrain tires.

The Willys offers a few perks like remote proximity keyless entry. The MSRP for this trim is $42,775.

Other special edition trims include the Overland, which costs $44,475; the Rubicon, with a starting price of $48,025; the Mojave at $48,420; and the High Altitude, which starts at $53,170.
