The website iSeeCars reports that the top 20 models with the greatest potential lifespan include 10 Toyotas, which is exactly half the list. It’s easy to see that Toyotas have been among the most reliable cars for many years. Among the Toyotas, the Avalon and Prius beat out the Camry and Corolla.
Considering that the Camry and the Corolla are more popular, the Avalon and Prius are better options if consumers are concerned about the vehicle’s longevity. The Avalon has an expected mileage of 245,710, and the Prius has an expected mileage of 250,601. When compared to the Camry, with an expected mileage of 230,547 miles, this is a surprising revelation. However, one factor that might explain this is that some consumers don’t intend to keep their vehicles for several years.
How the car lifespan study was conducted
The study was conducted between January and October 2022, and nearly 2 million used cars on the road were evaluated. Models were ranked according to the mileage of the top 1% of vehicles within each nameplate. For further study, only models that had been in production as of the 2020 model year and had at least 10 model years of production between 2002 and 2021 (20 model years) were included.
Moreover, heavy-duty trucks were not included in the analysis. Only two electric vehicles on the list have been around for at least 10 of the past 20 years. Both look promising for long-term durability.
