The 2022 Subaru Ascent is the largest SUV from this rugged-yet-sensible automaker. Its ability to be both the kind of vehicle you can toss a couple of bikes and a kayak onto as well as carpool half the soccer team to practice has made it a family-favorite. Now, Parents Magazine adds another accolade to its reputation: Best for Road Trips. Here’s why you just might want to seriously consider the 2022 Subaru Ascent if you’re a road-tripping family.

The 2022 Subaru Ascent is a family-friendly three-row SUV

Parents Magazine says that Subaru is a “love-driven brand” and that the three-row Ascent’s addition to the market has been a welcome one. It also notes that Subaru owners know what they want, and that the new Ascent delivers on that, saying “this SUV delivers all the capability that Subaru owners love (and demand).”

The Subaru Ascent is an eight-passenger SUV that’s both road and off-road friendly. It comes with a turbocharged 2.4-liter four-cylinder engine that makes 260 hp and 277 lb-ft of torque. It also has important safety features like LED headlights, adaptive cruise control, and lane keep-assist. Its Eyesight ADAS uses camera-based sensors to operate its safety functions.

The Subaru Ascent is perfect for road trips

The 2022 Subaru Ascent is the Best for Road Trips thanks to its combination of being both rugged and accessible. It’s a three-row SUV, yes, but it isn’t a behemoth of a vehicle, and it’s easy to get in and out of. It also follows Subaru’s brand theme of being built for the outdoors. Parents Magazine says, “This car is durable and easy to clean while being comfortable and nicely appointed, especially in the top level Touring edition ($45,945).”

The Subaru Ascent also comes with updated technology that will keep your kids entertained while you’re on your way to your travel destination. All Ascents come with a six-speaker sound system as well as a 6.5-inch infotainment screen that is compatible with both Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.

How much does the Ascent cost?

The 2022 Subaru Ascent price starts at $32,795 for the base model but you don’t have to stop there. If you want to add on even more to make your road trips seriously epic, there are other trim levels with additional options and features that will make your trips feel downright luxurious and allow you to tow a whole lot. The Premium trim level ups the amount that the Subaru Ascent can tow, from 2,000 pounds to 5,000 pounds. It also adds on heated front seats, blind-spot monitor, and increases the screen size from 6.5-inches to 8-inches.

The 2022 Subaru Ascent Limited includes a heated steering wheel and second-row seats. The Limited also has folding mirrors with integrated turn signals, drivers seat memory settings, and a power-adjustable passenger seat. This is the most popular trim level, at $41,270. If you want a built-in navigation system, look to the Touring. It’s the most expensive, at $47,120, but if you’ll be taking a lot of road trips, it just may be money well-spent.

The 2022 Subaru Ascent is family-friendly for a lot of reasons that also make it the best SUV for road trips. If you’re looking for something you can get dirty while you take your kids to a faraway destination, the Subaru Ascent is definitely one SUV you should consider.
