Lucid Electric SUV: What to Know About the Gravity
Two years have passed since Lucid rocked the EV boat with its 2021 Air sedan. The fast, luxurious Lucid Air has garnered praise across the industry, with many claiming the Lucid sedan puts Tesla on notice. Indeed, the Lucid Air boasts over 1,200 horsepower, blistering acceleration to 60 mph in less than two seconds, and a plush cabin with premium features. But the brand is going to continue. Lucid has shown details of an upcoming SUV known as the Gravity. Here’s what we know so far.
Is Lucid coming out with an electric SUV?
Lucid has stated that the Gravity SUV is a sure thing – but it’s still polishing the final details before a full release. According to Road & Track, the Gravity SUV will be available in both five-seat and seven-seat configurations, offering a more spacious alternative than the five-passenger Lucid Air. The model will compete against an ever-growing slate of electric SUVs like the Tesla Model X and Rivian R1S.
What will the Lucid Gravity look like?
Lucid currently only offers glimpses of the SUV’s appearance. You can visit Lucid’s website to get a sense of its general shape and aesthetic – but precise details are difficult to see. The concept shows headlamps and taillights that pull from the existing aesthetic of the Lucid Air sedan. It appears that a prominent rear roof overhang will give the impression of a spoiler or wing. Like the Air sedan, Lucid hints at an open glass canopy for its SUV model.
How will the Lucid SUV perform?
Lucid has not shared specific details regarding its Gravity SUV model. However, we can still look at the Lucid Air sedan as a baseline since the SUV will almost certainly share the same platform.
In its top performance trim, the Air sedan produces 1,000 horsepower. That kind of performance in the Lucid Gravity would far surpass gas-powered options like the Lamborghini Urus or Dodge Durango SRT Hellcat.
In its top configuration, the Lucid Air offers a range of more than 500 miles. The Gravity SUV may lag behind due to more weight or less efficient aerodynamics. But an impressive range is still likely for the Lucid SUV.
How much will it cost?
Lucid has not released pricing for the Gravity SUV yet – but it’s likely to outpace the Lucid Air cost-wise. The Air sedan starts with a base price of $138,000. The top Sapphire trim starts at a whopping $249,000. A larger, even more capable electric SUV would probably cost even more with the right options.
When will it be available?
According to Lucid, we can expect a full release for the Gravity SUV sometime in 2023. Exact pricing, performance, technology, and more details will be available. After that, Lucid says units will hit the road sometime in 2024. Until Lucid opens up orders for the Gravity SUV, EV enthusiasts will have to remain patient and keep perusing the brand’s website.
