Making the Ford Everest Unavailable in America Is a Huge Mistake
We feel robbed! The Ford Everest is one rugged SUV that we wish we could have in the United States, but no. It has to be limited to other countries around the world. It’s just not fair that Americans may miss out on the 2022 Ford Everest.
Will the 2022 Ford Everest come to America?
According to Motor Authority, there is a slight chance that the 2022 Ford Everest could debut in America. However, don’t get your hopes up too high. Previous generations of the Ford Everest have not been available in America.
Currently, the Everest is sold in markets where the Ford Bronco isn’t available, providing fans with a capable off-roading SUV. But a few Everest prototypes have been spotted around Ford’s headquarters in Dearborn, Michigan. What were those models doing over here across the pond?
Some suggest that Ford doesn’t want to bring the Everest in to compete with the Ford Explorer and Bronco Sport. But it serves as an epic three-row SUV that could easily rival the Toyota 4Runner.
The Explorer has three rows too, but it has more of a racing, and sporty SUV feel. The Explorer rides on a unibody, rear-wheel drive platform, and all-wheel drive is available. Also, the Ford Explorer Timberline trim beefs it up a little. The Everest is more upright and better equipped for off-roading.
What’s new for the 2022 Everest?
The 2022 Ford Everest marks a new generation, and you can catch the global reveal on March 1, 2022. We’ve only seen images and videos of the new Everest, whiles it’s heavily covered in camouflage so far.
But we do know that it rides on the T6 platform as the 2023 Ford Ranger. It’s basically a Ranger-based SUV. These vehicles could be fraternal twins. That means they are pretty similar but aren’t identical.
The new Ford Ranger is being built in Wayne, Michigan. If the Everest and Ranger share enough parts, perhaps the Everest could be produced in the same factory. But the Bronco is also manufactured there, so it’s a busy place.
The new Everest has C-shaped headlights, like the Ranger, and squared-off corners for a wider and more prominent stance. It may have a similar grille design with matching taillights too. It would fit right in with the Maverick and Ford F-150 with its matching style.
How much power does the 2022 Everest have?
We aren’t sure how much power the 2022 Ford Everest will have yet. Perhaps we will learn more during the upcoming reveal. The Everest might share powertrain options with the Ranger, which might also share the same engines with the Ford Bronco.
The standard engine in the Ford Bronco is a 2.3-liter four-cylinder option with 300 hp and 325 lb-ft of torque. You can upgrade to the 2.7-liter V6 engine for 330 hp and 415 lb-ft of torque. Both options are paired with a 10-speed automatic transmission, but the 7-speed manual is only available with the 2.3-liter engine.
Older models of the Everest have turbo-diesel engines, and the 3.5-liter unit is being dropped. It may gain a new diesel option that the Ranger will get too. However, the Ranger in America probably won’t have the diesel engine.
