A Maine man wreaked havoc by vandalizing a car dealership and 75 vehicles
People vandalize cars. It’s the unfortunate truth of a vulnerable entity like a parked car, truck, SUV, or minivan. Tragically, it’s all too easy for some ne’er-do-well to brutalize a stationary vehicle with a key or a blunt instrument. However, this Maine man went several steps further by vandalizing a car dealership and causing thousands of dollars in damages to many unsold vehicles.
A young man thought vandalizing a car dealership was a better use of his Sunday morning than a spirited drive
A 25-year-old criminal in Auburn, Maine went to a car dealership on Sunday. But they didn’t show up to buy a car or take a test drive. No, this young man immediately started vandalizing and damaging cars on the dealership’s lot.
The criminal set to work vandalizing cars by smashing windows and denting vehicles’ bodywork, per NewsTimes. Incidentally, Auburn Police reported that the vandal managed to damage 75 vehicles before the authorities arrived and arrested him.
Disturbingly, the police didn’t release details regarding the young criminal’s motives. That is, if he had one at all. Either way, the vandal caused nearly $100,000 in damages. Moreover, the unnamed vandal used a heavy backpack to crack windshields and dent the waiting vehicles.
According to police, a bystander noticed the man vandalizing the car dealership and its vehicles before reporting it to the authorities. Auburn Deputy Chief of Police Tim Cougle reported that “the sooner police arrived the less damage there would be.” That seems to ring true, considering police didn’t arrest the man until he had already vandalized 75 vehicles.
Unfortunately, the vandal’s actions aren’t unique. Earlier this year, vandals broke into Hi Lo Auto Sales in Frederick, Maryland. According to WFMD, they robbed the dealership, vandalized it, and stole a truck. Furthermore, as if the vandalism and theft weren’t enough, the suspects reportedly set fire to the building, effectively destroying the dealership.
