Man Wins 2006 Mitsubishi Lancer Evo 9 Dream Car Giveaways and Destroys It In 24 Hours
Buying your dream car must be one of the most exciting things a car nerd can do. The only thing better would be winning your dream car for free. If that is the best thing, then the worst must be winning a free 2006 Mitsubishi Evo IX and totaling it after only one day. This Mitsubishi Lancer Evo might as well be a Ferrari for a certain niche group of motorists. Losing it after one day would be rough, indeed.
The winner only got 24 hrs with his Mitsubishi Lancer Evo
A man in the U.K. recently participated in a Dream Car Giveaways contest and won a dreamy, red 2006 Mitsubishi Evo IX. According to The Drive, this particular dream car was the FQ-320 model with 70,000 miles and only light modifications.
“Adam Griffiths was straight over today to collect this stunning Evo IX he won in last night’s draw 👌. A lovely example this was, which I’m sure he will get many happy miles from! Enjoy 😊”
The Drive shared this post from Dream Car Giveaways after the lucky winner was chosen. The joy of announcing such exciting news along with the “many happy miles,” part is particularly rough knowing that the very next day the Mitsubishi Evo would be totalled.
We can guess what happened next…
Apparently, the crash site, Cardiff road in Pontypridd, is only 90 miles from where Griffiths picked up his dream Lancer. Dream Car Giveaways did a very kind follow-up post the next day to address the Lancer Evo crash.
“As most of you will be aware, unfortunately, the Evo was written off in an accident this morning. The main thing is Adam is fine, we don’t know what happened and won’t speculate. Please be respectful in your comments. It can happen to anyone. We wish Adam all the best from DCG.”
The reports say it was a single-car accident meaning something caused the Evo to lose control and smash into the wall. The driver was ok, but unfortunately, the Mitsubishi Lancer Evo was not.
What makes a 2006 Mitsubishi Lancer Evo special?
These cars were all about function over form, although they look great, too. The 9.0 Lancer Evo has a turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder making 286 hp. While that isn’t neck-breaking power, these little boogers have a legendary AWD system that makes these lightweight road monsters go like snot.
The Lancer Evo 9 heavily benefited from the tuner car scene and the Fast and Furious franchise as one of the many featured cars in those films, specifically the red one driven by the protagonist in Tokyo Drift.
Not only are these cars a fan favorite of the “boy racer” scene, but they are also a sort of cult classic within the tuner/JDM car scene. Due to the JDM scene and the screen time from The Fast and the Furious films, the Mitsubishi Lancer Evo 9 can creep in the six-figure range for a nice one.
We will have to pour one out for Adam and his dead Lancer Evo. Hopefully, he had insurance.
