We love watching supercars sell at auctions. Over the past couple of years, Doug DeMuro’s Cars & Bids has skyrocketed in the online auction space, with its bid record getting beat out repeatedly. Recently, the most expensive car sold on Cars & Bids changed again. This time, in the form of an extremely rare manual Lamborgini Murcielago LP-640.

Closing on August 8th, 2023, this Murcielago now holds the record for the most expensive car sold on Cars & Bids. It is worth noting one car was bid higher but ultimately did not sell. This is likely due to a reserve price that bidders did not meet.

A manual Lamborghini Murcielago is, in itself, pretty rare. However, when you factor in the fact that his example is an LP-640 model (the second-generation Murcielago, so to speak), things get even rarer. According to VinWiki, only 26 manual transmission LP-640s ever made their way to the United States.

Incidentally, Ed Bolian, a co-founder and current CEO of VinWiki, is nothing short of a Murcielago connoisseur. His discovery of the extremely limited production numbers of manual cars drove his desire to own them. So, it won’t be that shocking for you to find that Bolian was the winner of this particular Cars & Bids auction. Popular car YouTuber James Condon, better known as TheStradman, also put in a bid on this glorious piece of Lamborghini history.

The LP-640 models’ major enhancement over the previous Murcielago models came in the form of more engine displacement and, as a result, more horsepower. With a 631 horsepower V12 engine, the LP-640 Lamborghini Murcielago sprints from zero to 60 miles per hour in under 3.5 seconds. Full tilt, it will go on to a top speed of 210 miles per hour.

This particular car had some factory goodies, too. It features the carbon package, branding package, active aero, transparent engine cover, and carbon ceramic brakes, just to name a few. The car’s previous owner also installed some modifications, such as a Kriessig exhaust system, blue brake calipers, black wheels, and an aftermarket stereo system.

Though this car had some minor paint issues and old tires, it still managed to rake in a pretty astonishing bid. Just a few years ago, one could purchase a Lamborghini Murcielago for under $200,000. Unfortunately, we all missed the boat here at MotorBiscuit.
