Mazda introduced its diesel version of the ever-popular CX-5 crossover, the Skyactiv-D, last year at the 2019 New York Auto Show. And while it was meant to be a gasoline alternative for those that wanted the feeling of low-end diesel grunt, the oil-burning CX-5 didn’t exactly turn heads or pique interest. It also didn’t help that the car was priced at $41,000, which is $4,000 more than the top-trim gas variant. However, if you’re at all interested, you can now get one for $10,000 to $12,000 off the sticker price.

The CX-5 Skyactiv-D is a little weak, but cheap

We admit, with a rating of 27 mpg in the city and 30 mpg on the highway, the CX-5 Skyactiv-D doesn’t get the stellar fuel economy numbers that we would expect from any diesel engine, nor does make an amazing amount of torque. In fact, the 2.2-liter diesel engine produces 168 horsepower and 290 lb-ft of torque, which is actually a lot slower than the vehicle’s available turbo 2.5-liter engine that puts out 227 hp and 310 lb-ft. But if the cost of diesel and the mileage that this CX-5 trim level gets somehow suits your needs, then you better act on it quickly.

According to Mazda’s website, the CX-5 Skyactiv-D is only available for the 2019 model year, as the 2020 model lineup has already be released sans the diesel version. Luckily, thanks to manufacturer incentives, you can now get Mazda CX-5 Skyactiv-D at a deeply discounted rate. For example, here is a CX-5 Signature AWD model located in York, Pennsylvania that has a sticker price of $42,045 and is currently listed at $31,045. That’s is one heck of a discount!

Get one while supplies last

Since it looks like Mazda only produced the CX-5 Skyactiv-D for the 2019 model year, it’s pretty safe to say that whatever each dealer has in stock is what they have. And once they are gone, that’s it. Luckily, there might not be that many people banging down the doors to get in a Skyactiv-D, so you could have a chance of getting one, although, you might need to travel.

A quick search on Autotrader.com revealed several listings all over the country with the CX-5 Skyactiv-D model discounted to the tune of $11,000 on average. This means that most of them are going for a much more appropriate price of around $31,000, depending on the region. Some are still priced around the $34,000 mark, while others are still listed all full MSRP. If you’re interested in getting into one of these CX-5s and the closest dealer isn’t listing the discount, then we advise you to simply ask them about it.

According to Carsdirect.com, the massive amounts of discounts are available due to undisclosed incentives from the manufacturers. So while some dealers might not show the discount on the website, that doesn’t mean they don’t exist. Also, Mazda typically doesn’t allow dealers to advertise prices below invoice price, which for this trim level is $40,446, so we can see why some dealers aren’t showing the bottom dollar. Either way, act fast and don’t miss out!
