Watch out, a new SUV recall could be heading this way. The Jeep Wrangler 4xe may be the most popular PHEV in America, but it has its fair share of problems you should know about. The Wrangler 4xe is currently under investigation for an issue that could impact 94k models.

The Jeep Wrangler is under investigation for engine failure

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHSTA) has officially launched an investigation into Jeep Wrangler 4xe models due to potential engine failure problems.

This could become a massive recall that involves about 94,275 Wrangler 4xe models. This is related to a recall from 2022, that included 63,000 Wrangler 4xe models from 2021 – 2022 due to the sudden loss of motive power.

The engine could suddenly shut down while driving, increasing the risk of injuries and accidents. According to the NHSTA, the investigation is to assess the severity of the alleged defect and how effective the solution for the previous recall was.

Jeep provided a calibration software update to correct the problem, but complaints continued to roll in. People faced problems with the 2023 and 2024 models. So, the new investigation covers 2021 – 2024 models.

Stellantis is cooperating with the NHSTA and it’s unclear how long the investigation could take. It could be a few months before a potential new recall is released.

This isn’t the only problem that Jeep Wrangler 4xe owners have had to face. In 2024, there was a recall involving 32,000 models because an electrical problem could cause these hybrid SUVs to catch on fire.

Another problem related to excessive heat could cause a fuse to fail, leading to the loss of drive power. Overheated clutch components are related to another fire risk.

A disabled rearview camera image could decrease the driver’s visibility and disable the reverse lights. This fails to alert other drivers when the Wrangler 4xe is reversing or braking.

An inoperative windshield defrosting and defogging system could decrease the driver’s disability, increasing the risk of an accident. Also, there is a recall related to the airbags because they might not properly deploy during a crash.

Stay tuned for updates about the engine failure investigation.
