The Mazda CX-5 is a popular SUV for a few reasons. It is a safe SUV that has a low cost of maintenance. It is also fairly priced. If you consider purchasing this Mazda sport utility vehicle, see how it compares to some other vehicles in the same class.

How reliable is the Mazda CX-5?

According to Repair Pal, the Mazda CX-5 is a fairly reliable automobile. Out of five stars, Repair Pal gave the SUV four and a half stars. For the average midsize SUV, the rating is around three and a half stars. Out of the 26 cars ranked, the CX-5 was number one.

The annual cost for repairs and maintenance for the average midsize SUV is around $573. For all vehicles, the price goes up to around $652. The CX-5 came in at around $447.

As far as the frequency of having to bring your car in for unscheduled maintenance, the Mazda SUV had an average of 0.3 times per year. Compared to 0.4 for other midsize SUVs and other cars in general, that’s not very often.

Even when this SUV needs to go in, the issues generally are not as severe. Repair Pal found the percentage to be around 8% compared to the 13% average for similar SUVs. The rest of the vehicle models came in at 12%.

This means that even if you did have to pop in for a repair, it would likely be a quick or inexpensive fix. Keeping up with required maintenance is imperative to the life of your vehicle.

Is the CX-5 fairly priced?

The Sport trim for the 2021 CX-5 starts at $25,370. Many trim levels offer various levels of upgrades for interior, exterior, and safety. Consumer Reports ranked the SUV at number two on a list of 25 similar compact sport utility vehicles.

The company scored the SUV at a five out of five on the predicted reliability and four out of five for predicted owner satisfaction. At the time of publication, Mazda offers some incentives like $1,000 cash back through the end of June 2021.

The Touring trim starts at $27,110 and has features like dual-zone climate control, heated front seats, and six-way adjustable seats. The Carbon Turbo edition is $30,760 to start. This has some upgraded features like a turbo engine and 19-inch alloy wheels.

How does this compare to a Honda CR-V?

Using Repair Pal to compare the two, the CX-5 and the Honda CR-V are fairly evenly matched. The average cost of repairs is $407 for the CR-V, so only $40 less than the Mazda. Above all, both SUVs had an overall reliability rating of four and a half stars.

The CR-V only came in second place after the CX-5. Some reviews on the site note that the Honda is fairly comfortable but not quite as safe. Of course, that depends on the year you purchase.

Similarly, Consumer Reports compared it to the Hyundai Tucson, Subaru Forester, and Toyota RAV4. The CX-5 came out on top. If you would like a used vehicle, try to find one with a warranty.
