Don’t ignore Mazda, this is serious. The automaker is trying to save your life with a reminder that 82,893 Mazda SUVs and cars could still have deadly Takata airbag inflators. You want to get it removed ASAP because it could take your life.

Mazda SUVs and cars could still have deadly Takata airbags

Ford has recently been in the news for issuing a do-not-drive order because tons of vehicles are still equipped with deadly Takata airbag inflators that could explode.

However, Ford isn’t alone in this quest. Mazda SUVs, trucks, and cars also could still be equipped with Takata airbags, and urges drivers to get them replaced. Other brands with Takata airbags include General Motors, Honda, Tesla, Nissan, Subaru, and more.

This fight has been happening for nine years. But the deadly airbags are still in use. A Takata airbag is related to a recent death in 2022.

A driver of a 2006 Ford Ranger lost his life after the steering-wheel-mounted airbag exploded, sending shrapnel through the cabin.

At the time, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) was aware of 23 deaths in the United States related to faulty Takata airbags.

There could be about 83,000 drivers at risk. The following Mazda SUVs, cars, and trucks are at risk:

  • 2024-2009 Mazda B-Series
  • 2003-2004 Mazda5
  • 2006-2006 MazdaSpeed6
  • 2004-2011 RX-8
  • 2004-2006 MVP
  • 2009-2013 Mazda6
  • 2007-2012 CX-7
  • 2007-2015 CX-9

If you have one of the Mazda vehicles listed above, then it’s time to make sure you don’t have a Takata airbag.

You will need to schedule a maintenance appointment at a local dealership to get it replaced. The replacement could be covered at no cost to owners due to multiple recalls. Enter your 17-digit Vehicle Identification Number (VIN) on the NHTSA site to see if your car is at risk.

If your car isn’t covered by a warranty or a recall notice, then replacing the airbag should only cost about $100 to replace.

Moisture, heat, and humidity cause the propellant inside of the Taka airbag to degrade over time. As a result, they may suddenly rupture and send pieces of their metal casing through the cabin. It could seriously injure or kill you.
