The Mercedes-Benz EQB is a glimpse into the future of luxury automobiles
The Mercedes-Benz EQB starts at $55,500. It comes in two different trim levels, the EQB300 4MATIC and the EQB350 4MATIC. The 2023 Mercedes-Benz EQB300 4MATIC starts at $56,800.
The EQB makes 225 horsepower and 288 lb-ft of torque. The final trim makes 288 horses and 324 lb-ft of torque. It has about 260 miles of driving range. That’s more driving range than the average new electric vehicle.
The Mercedes-Benz EQB can charge from 10-100% battery capacity in about 7.5 hours. It can charge from 10-80% in about 32 minutes using 110 kW DC Fast Charging. The EQB features a next-gen MBUX multimedia system. It’s a five-seater, but buyers can opt for a seven-seater.
Mercedes plans on electrifying its entire lineup by 2030. Buyers will get two years of free 30-minute charging sessions from the Electrify America charging station in the U.S. Electrify America is a Volkswagen company.
Is the Mercedes-Benz EQB an electric GLB?
Many popular automakers are electrifying their most popular nameplates to cash in on the new electric vehicle trend. Electrifying existing nameplates makes it easier for consumers to connect with new vehicles that use electric powertrains.
Ford has electrified the F-150 Lightning. Chevy is electrifying the Silverado. While the exteriors of these vehicles are reminiscent of their gas-powered ancestors, the EVs are truly original creations. Such is the case with the EQB. It may resemble the gas-powered GLB, but it is its own vehicle.
The Mercedes-Benz EQB features its own signature black-panel front grille. It also features LED illumination and an LED rear light band that is specific to the model. The EQB’s design language is distinct and separates it from its gas-powered predecessor. So, the EQB may take inspiration from the GLB, but it has its own unique design and strengths to contribute.
Is the Mercedes-Benz EQB worth the money?
The Mercedes-Benz EQB electric luxury compact SUV is much more expensive than the gas-powered GLB. The GLB starts at just $38,600. There’s a $16,900 difference between the GLB gas-powered luxury compact SUV and the EQB electric luxury compact SUV. That’s a pretty steep price jump, but the EQB could set the standard for electric luxury vehicles.
Mercedes’ electric luxury compact electric SUV isn’t affordable, but its price is competitive in its vehicle segment. Car and Driver considers it one of the best electric luxury SUVs on the market.
