Is the Mercedes-Benz EQS Worth the Extra Cash Over the EQE?
Over the past couple of years, Mercedes-Benz has been rolling out its all-electric model lineup dubbed the “EQ.” The Mercedes-Benz EQS was released in the latter part of 2021, and more recently, the smaller EQE sedan has made its way into dealer showrooms. There are some differences between these two EVs and a large difference in price. But is the more expensive EQS worth the extra cash over its smaller EQE sibling?
2023 Mercedes-Benz EQS vs. Mercedes-Benz EQE: Price
The 2023 Mercedes-Benz EQE starts at $74,900, which can easily add up when the option boxes are checked. For example, the option to add all-wheel drive can tack on an extra $3,000. The Mercedes EQS, on the other hand, starts at $104,400 and can be upgraded as well. Even just opting for the high-performance EQS 580 4Matic will set you back $125,950.
2023 Mercedes-Benz EQS vs. Mercedes-Benz EQE: Performance
Considering the 2023 Mercedes-Benz EQE is a smaller and detuned version of the EQS, you can expect that it will have lower performance and range stats. As such, the EQE incorporates a 90.6-kWh battery as compared to the EQS 107.8-kWh battery. This equates to a lower electric range of 305 miles compared to the EQS’ 350-mile rating.
Surprisingly, both cars have similar acceleration and torque ratings. The EQE can reach 60 mph from a standstill in 6.3 seconds compared to the EQS’ 6.3 seconds. Also, both cars put out 417 lb-ft of torque. But the EQS wins in the horsepower department with its 329 rating compared to the EQE’s 288.

The Mercedes-Benz EQE is a mid-sized sedan, which makes it slightly shorter than the full-size EQS. The EQE’s wheelbase measures 122.8 inches compared to the EQS’ 196.6 inches, which means it’s just over 10 inches shorter.
As for exterior aesthetics, both cars look fairly similar with their black grilles and LED lighting. One major difference is the EQS’ hatchback configuration, which makes it slightly more pragmatic than the EQE’s traditional trunk. This difference equates to seven fewer cubic feet of space in the smaller car.
Both of these cars also have the latest and greatest features that Mercedes-Benz has to offer. Some of these features include the MBUX AI learning system, ambient lighting, voice commands, and infotainment systems. However, since the EQS is based on the range-topping S-Class, you can expect a more robust list of luxuries. Some of them include massaging seats, a 56-inch Hyperscreen display, and an available Executive Rear Seat package.
Which Mercedes-Benz EQ sedan should you choose?
If you’re looking for the most bang for your buck, the 2023 Mercedes-Benz EQE is worth the money. It may not have the same amount of performance or range as the EQS, but we don’t think it’s worth spending nearly twice as much for the outfitted larger brother. If you’re in the market for a luxury EV sedan, the Mercedes-Benz EQE is a great way to go.
