Mercedes is working hard on becoming a greener company, especially with the release of the new EQS electric vehicle. Starting with the aerodynamics of the EQS itself and the production facility, Mercedes is well on the way to a greener future.

What is Mercedes Green Charging?

Along with the announcement of the EQS came information about Green Charging. Mercedes wants to help minimize the footprint of customers with this initiative. When you plug in to charge your electric vehicle, you feed green electricity back into the grid simultaneously.

Mercedes me Charge is the new charging platform for the EQS. “100 percent of the energy comes from renewable resources. To promote the use of green electricity, Mercedes acquires guarantees of origin in the required quantity,” the brand said in a press release.

For the first two years of ownership, Green Charging is free. Mercedes is expanding the charging station network to power the brand’s new electric vehicle lineup with ease.

The network has over 500,000 charging points, 200,000 of which are in Europe. The charging network covers 90% of the U.S.

The EQS production facility is also green

The production facility for the EQS is called Factory 56. Factory 56 is well equipped with 12,000 photovoltaic modules. These have an output of 5000 kWp and will cover around 30% of the factory’s energy needs. That means that Factory 56 has an energy requirement that is 25% lower than other similar facilities.

Mercedes says Factory 56 will be totally CO2-neutral and zero-carbon. Additionally, many components of the EQS were made from recycled and renewable materials. It is also the most aerodynamic production car yet.

40% of the roof of Factory 56 is green and made from recycled concrete. The floor is made from regenerated nylon, which saves 6.5 tons of CO2 than creating new materials.

And finally, the battery for the EQS has a long service life of us to 10 years of 155,000 miles. Not bad for the first car.

Specs for the 2022 Mercedes EQS EV

The 2022 Mercedes EQS was just officially unveiled. Mercedes is calling it a new era, starting with the EQS. The all-electric luxury sedan will get up to 435 miles. It is based on the luxury S-class series but has been totally redesigned from the ground up.

The hyper screen goes across the entire dashboard and is brand new technology. At 56 inches wide, the screen will certainly keep passengers entertained. In the U.S., the EQS 450+ will get 329 horsepower. The EQS 580 4MATIC will have 516 horsepower. Both models will get up to 124 miles per hour, per USA Today.

One other feature is coming for Tesla: the ability to update over the air. When your electric vehicle needs an update, Mercedes can do it from afar.

The EQS will offer 100 kWh battery recharges to 80% in around 20 minutes on a DC Fast Charger. The EQS is scheduled to be on the market sometime in 2022 and more details will come out as we get closer.
