Today, there are many popular sports cars on the market, but few are as unattainable as a Bugatti. Featuring cutting-edge exterior designs and some of the most aggressive powertrains, these supercars fetch high prices. The automaker’s most expensive model, the 1,500-hp Bugatti La Voiture Noire, sold for almost $19 million. 

Bugatti’s influence has extended beyond automobiles, inspiring a pool table and multiple luxury watches. And the latest luxury timepiece nods to the Bugatti Chiron, the world’s fastest car. Here’s what makes this watch so special.

A look at the Bugatti Chiron Tourbillon watch

An average wristwatch can often produce inaccurate readings because of the gravity imposed on the watch’s face. The watch is worn vertically on the wearer’s wrist, while the timetable itself is horizontal. Over time, the pressure of resting on both a vertical and horizontal frame strains the hairspring inside the watch.

A tourbillon watch is built with a rotating cage that’s constantly turning, evening out the negative effects of gravity. These watches often have fancier decorations to match their expensive interior components, and the Bugatti Chiron Tourbillon is no exception. The latest watch, made by Jacob & Co., boasts hundreds of tiny black sapphires, orange sapphires, and white diamonds inside the case.

According to Robb Report, the case is 18-karat white gold, but the inner workings are even more impressive.  It holds a tiny version of the Chiron’s beefy 16-cylinder engine, with 16 pistons and a steel crankshaft. Jacob & Co. even re-created the twin turbochargers that spin while the watch hands make their rounds.

The manual winding mechanism has 578 components held in four places to replicate the shocks on a sports car. The side of the case bears a fuel pump icon to indicate the power reserve meter.

The Bugatti Chiron supercar

The Bugatti Chiron packs a 16-cylinder engine with a whopping four superchargers producing 1,500 hp and 1,180 lb-ft of torque. The Chiron Super Sport 300+ features an upgrade that adds 78 extra horses. It boasts a top speed of 261 mph and a reported 0-to-60-mph time of just 2.3 seconds.

It pairs with a seven-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission and all-wheel drive. According to TopGear, it handles like a dream without the hiccups of other supercars with electronic steering. Acceleration is easy, and there’s no pause between shifts. However, the Bugatti Chiron is so speedy that the resulting airflow can cause tire pressure loss.

Exterior design cues also extend to the inside of the Bugatti Chiron, with its curved cabin design and seatbacks. The seats are adorned with luxurious quilted leather, and the dashboard is one shiny piece of aluminum.

Infotainment offerings are sparse in the Chiron, with no center touchscreen or smartphone integration. However, it has a state-of-the-art sound system complete with a diamond membrane in the tweeter. According to Accuton, the audio system creates sound stage–quality audio even at the Chiron’s top speed.

How much does a Chiron cost?

The latest Bugatti Chiron Tourbillon watch costs an eyewatering $560,000. That’s more expensive than the model released last year, which retails for $250,000. That might seem like a hefty chunk of change, but the Bugatti Chiron supercar costs a whopping $2.99 million.

The Chiron Pur Sport, new for 2021, retails for $3.6 million and comes with a rear spoiler and suspension enhancements. The beastly Bugatti Chiron Super Sport 300+ leads the pack with a $3.9 million price tag. Most people can’t afford a Chiron supercar, but the watch is a nice tribute.
