What makes a car fast? Is it horsepower? How quickly it accelerates from 0 to 60 mph? Or is it the car that hits the highest overall speed? In the end, many factors come into play when deciding which car is truly the fastest.

Many muscle cars make their mark for slick bodies, hefty price tags, and more importantly, speed. It makes you wonder which ones on today’s market will make this list. Technological advances play a big role in breaking old records. It makes picking the fastest car of all time nearly impossible. That being said, there are a lot of 2019 contenders for the title.

Dodge Challenger SRT Hellcat Redeye

Dodge went all out with the Challenger SRT’s 797 hp. According to Motor Trend, this sweet little ride reaches speeds of 204 mph and can go from 0 to 60 mph in a mere 3.4 seconds. While this may not be the fastest car on the list, it’s certainly earned its place among the greats for 2019.

McLaren Senna

When Car and Driver tested the McLaren Senna, they said it reached speeds of 100 mph in 5.1 seconds. The Senna, named after Ayrton Senna, who is considered to be one of the greatest Formula 1 drivers to ever hit the track, set its standards high and has delivered as promised.

Mercedes-AMG Project One

Mercedes-Benz really knows how to make a one-of-a-kind car in the Mercedes-AMG Project One. Kelley Blue Book reports that this car’s top speed is 217 mph and it brings in 1,000 hp. Given that many cars on the market barely top 150 hp, Mercedes is stepping up their game.

Lamborghini Aventador SVJ

No list of fast supercars would be complete without at least one Lamborghini, and the Aventador SVJ has certainly earned its place. With a V12 engine and 759 hp, the Aventador SVJ can go from 0 to 60 in 2.9 seconds and tops speeds of 217 mph. A race-inspired wing on the back practically screams at you to hit the track.

In 2018, Lamborghini tweeted “The new Lamborghini Aventador SVJ, pure driving perfection. Now crowned as the fastest production car to lap the Nürburgring Nordschleife circuit.” That’s quite the title for any car, so it’s no surprise Lamborghini brought home the title.

Koenigsegg CCR

In 2005, the Koenigsegg CCR made its way into the Guinness Book World Record as the world’s fastest production car in February 2005. With speeds of 242 mph and 806 hp, the Koenigsegg makes its presence felt.

Saleen S7 Twin-Turbo

Saleen reports that the S7 Twin-Turbo can reach speeds of 248, but Road and Track questions this claim. Known for designing cars for powerhouses like Ford, Dodge, Chevrolet, and even Tesla, Saleen has done great things over the years. However, the S7 is the only car they’ve manufactured on their own. Youtuber Rob Ferretti took the S7 for a spin and got up to 240 mph; he ran out of road before he could reach 248 mph. 

Milan Red

When you hear of Austria, you probably don’t think of auto companies that make expensive cars. But a newcomer to the auto world, Milan Automotive, is trying to change that. They roared straight out the gates with the striking Red, which can reach speeds of 249 mph. Milan has installed a quad-turbocharged 6.2-liter V8, which may have something to do with the Red’s insane speeds. While some hesitate to buy from an unknown company, Milan may be here to stay.
