Mitsubishi Changes Up the 2024 Outlander SUV
Mitsubishi is seeing huge success with its Outlander SUV. It is buoying the entire brand with its affordability, three-row cabin accommodations, and safety tech. With it being all-new last year, it’s getting a few minor upgrades and tweaks, making it even better for 2024.
What stands out is not actually any of these changes but what the automaker adds to the equation. The 2024 Mitsubishi Outlander now comes with a two-year maintenance package. This includes oil and filter changes at no charge, three tire rotations, and a cabin filter replacement for two years or 30,000 miles. This is added to Mitsubishi’s 10-year or 100,000 powertrain warranty, five-year or 60,000-mile overall limited warranty, and seven years or 100,000-mile corrosion warranty.
What’s new for the 2024 Mitsubishi Outlander?
Mitsubishi has changed its trims and color options for 2024 as well. A new Platinum Edition features a Black Diamond body and an Alloy Silver top. For the Black Edition SEL trim, the interior now comes in black semi-aniline upholstery. There’s also a black dynamic shield, black chrome around the window trim, and a matching black railing on the roof.
The model’s available plug-in hybrid powertrain gets 26 mpg combined without electric motor accompaniment. With it alone, you can get 38 miles of range and 64 MPGe. Overall, it provides 248 hp, which is slightly disappointing for a three-row SUV. Still, it beats Toyota’s RAV4, which features almost 50 less hp.
How is the Outlander’s PHEV system different?
What’s unique about this PHEV system is the gasoline motor works as a generator for the two electric motors. However, under lesser loads, it reverts to a regular parallel hybrid setup. Now, the gas engine is supplying the power driving the 2024 Mitsubishi Outlander. And don’t forget; the Outlander offers all-wheel drive S-AWC in all versions.
For standard Outlanders, which Edmunds says is “the best vehicle Mitsubishi sells in the U.S.,” there’s a new Premium Edition. It carries the same color scheme as the PHEV hybrid, but the cabin is covered in Light Grey fabric. There is also a satin-finish hood emblem and silver trim around the gauges for new details.
What if the Outlander is too big or costly?
Competitors in this segment include the aforementioned Toyota RAV4 and Hyundai Santa Fe. Both come with PHEV options and similar features, performance, and MSRP. However, the RAV4 is only a five-passenger two-seater in the compact SUV class.
Still, if the 2024 Mitsubishi Outlander doesn’t fit your budget or size requirements, there’s a smaller Outlander option. The 2024 Mitsubishi Outlander Sport crossover comes in a new Trail Edition with black hood details, side moldings, tailgate trim, inner door handle protectors, and mud flaps. For the cabin, the changes include all-weather floormats with a new SEL trim. It is priced at $23,695, almost $5,000 less than the larger Outlander.
