The V8 that was previously available exclusively on the High Country trim is spreading to other variants. The RST, Z71, and Premier trim now have the option of a 6.2-liter V8 engine. The High Country trim has this engine as its standard, with an optional 3.0 turbodiesel. The RST and Premier trims previously only used a base 5.3-liter V8 or the turbodiesel. The Z71 only used the base engine, with no turbodiesel available to it.

This new engine availability brings more power into the Tahoe and Suburban lineups. The lower, cheaper trim levels now have a large V8, which appeals to many looking to buy a vehicle in this segment. It’ll prove especially positive for those looking to tow a boat or RV. On top of the engine, these vehicles are getting new features that include trailer assistance technology. The Chevrolet Tahoe, when equipped with the 6.2-liter V8, can tow up to 8,300 pounds. The Chevrolet Suburban with the same engine can tow up to 8,200 pounds, which isn’t much of a difference, but still less.

There are now 13 available camera angles around the vehicle, including being able to see whatever it is you might be towing. If you purchase the optional accessory camera, you’ll be able to see inside your trailer as well. The Tahoe and Suburban models from LT or above will have a standard 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster. LT trims and above also have Google Assistant, Maps, and Play included as standard. These do not require a smartphone, though they can be enhanced by one. Manage phone call and text functions from the center screen, which is equipped with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay.

The Z71 trim level for these models also has the new electronic limited-slip differential as an option. It is an upgrade from the current mechanical limited-slip differential. This change was made on the GMC Yukon for the 2021 model year. Making this an expected coming change for these other large GM SUVs. Front and rear parking assist and lane-keeping assist with lane departure warning are now standard on all trims. Other new safety features include seatbelt interlocks, that prevent the vehicle from shifting out of park if seatbelts aren’t buckled. That’s right, this is a new feature that could spread to more vehicles soon.

According to MotorTrend, the brand new 2022 Chevrolet Tahoe and Suburban begin production in October of 2021. They will become available shortly later before the end of the year. This new engine gives buyers a new option for a powerful version of the two SUVs they didn’t have before. New safety and towing features are welcomed and help to better establish this large SUV as a safe and capable family vehicle.
