The 2024 Ford Ranger has been available to order since May, and now we get to see what buyers are interested in. Ford shared that 80% of people are buying Ranger models that are equipped with 4×4.
That means that the other 20% of Ranger trucks are the minority. Also, we can gather that new Ranger buyers are actually planning to put their trucks to work. Or at least they plan to go beyond typical pavement princess activities by off-roading or towing.
Speaking of work, 70% of buyers have equipped their Ranger model with the towing hitch. Roughly 50% of people also equipped the Pro Trailer Backup Assist, and Trailer Brake Controller features to make towing easier.
Plus, about 20% of Ranger buyers are opting for the available FX4 Off-Road package, so the intention to tackle the wild is alive and ready.
How much can the 2024 Ranger tow?
When properly equipped, the 2024 Ford Ranger can tow up to 7,500 lbs and can carry a payload of up to 1,805 lbs. Also, the Raptor Ranger can tow up to 5,510 lbs. This is plenty of power for hauling pop-up campers and adventure crafts.
Also, the Ranger remains pretty competitive in its segment. The Jeep Gladiator has the best-in-class towing capacity at 7,700 lbs, so it’s only 300 lbs behind. Also, the 2023 Nissan Frontier maxes out at 6,720 lbs, and the 2024 Toyota Tacoma maxes out at 6,500 lbs.
To achieve the highest tow rating with the Ranger, you need to equip the Trailer Tow package that includes a class IV hitch receiver, a wiring harness, and Pro Trailer Backup Assist. It can be added for $825.
The available Advanced Towing Package Plus Technology Package starts at $2,305. It adds the Reverse Park Aid with Trailor Guidance, adaptive cruise control with stop-and-go, a 360-degree camera display, front parking sensors, Enhanced Active Park Assist, and Connected Built-in Navigation.
The standard 2.3-liter EcoBoost inline-four-cylinder engine cranks out 270 hp and 310 lb-ft of torque. The 2.7-liter EcoBoost V6 provides 315 hp and 400 lb-ft of torque. Last but not least, the Ranger Raptor gets a turbocharged 3.0-liter V6 engine with 405 hp and 430 lb-ft of torque.
What comes with the Ranger FX4 package?
The 2024 Ford Ranger FX4 Off-Road package can be added for $1,295. But it’s only available with 4×4, which tacks on another $3,485. It’s also only available with the XLT and Lariat models, not the standard XL trim.
Anyway, the package includes an F4X decal, 17 or 18” Off-Road OWL tires, an electronic locking rear differential, an exposed steel bash plate, an off-road screen in the digital guage cluster, off-road-tuned shocks, protective skid plates, the terrain management system, and trail control.
Also, the Ranger XL model has an MSRP of $32,565. Upgrading to the XLT trim takes the price up to $36,005. The Lariat comes in at $43,525, and the Ranger Raptor starts at $55,365. These prices don’t include the destination fee or 4×4.
