The 2024 Mazda CX-5 is slated for a Fall 2023 release, and models are already popping up in dealerships nationwide. Mazda’s fan-favorite SUV has eight trim levels this year, with base MSRPs ranging between $30,000-$40,000. Despite the turbocharged appeal of the more expensive models, one of the lowest trims is proving to be more popular amongst shoppers.

A rundown of all the 2024 Mazda CX-5 trims

Starting off the lineup is the Mazda CX-5 2.5 S Select for just under $30,000. It comes equipped with a 187-hp engine paired with a six-speed automatic transmission, plus standard all-wheel drive. LED headlights are also standard across the lineup, while every lower S trim rides on 17-in alloy wheels.

Every Mazda CX-5 has room for five passengers, accommodated by leatherette-trimmed cloth seats on the base trim. Manual adjustment levers, heated seats, and a leather-wrapped steering wheel can all be found inside the cabin. The infotainment interface comes with a 10.25-inch screen pre-loaded smartphone integration. Many active safety features are also standard on this trim, such as blind-spot monitoring and forward-collision warning.

The Mazda CX-5 2.5 S Preferred costs $30,650 and the S Carbon Edition has a starting price of $31,950. In addition to an exclusive paint color, that model has special black wheels and interior accents. The 19-inch wheels carry over to the 2.5 S Premium model, though they’re gray instead of black. This trim also adds extra drive modes and adaptive headlights, contributing to its elevated MSRP of $33,900.

The S Premium Plus costs $36,500. It has leather-trimmed seats to mirror most CX-5 models, but these upgraded ones feature ventilation for the first-row riders. Heating is added for the rear seats and the steering wheel, plus you get a nicer Bose stereo system.

The Mazda CX-5 2.5 Carbon Turbo is new for this year and costs $37,000. As its name suggests, this is the cheapest way to get a CX-5 with the 256-hp turbo-four engine. It has the same styling cues as the regular Carbon Edition model, plus Terracotta leather seating trim.

The 2.5 Turbo Premium is largely the same, aside from a few exterior and interior upgrades. The 2.5 Turbo Signature trim is fully loaded with navigation, Nappa leather, interior wood inlays, attractive ambient lighting, and several extra safety features. It retails for $40,600 before any extra ordering fees from Mazda.

Why do drivers love the 2024 Mazda CX-5 2.5 S Preferred?

While not as fancy as some other Mazda CX-5 trims, this one gains leather-trimmed seats and a power moonroof. You also get a power rear liftgate with an adjustable load floor. The cabin seats have power adjustability levers as well as memory settings for the driver’s seat. All of that seems like a great deal for just a $650 upgrade.

This Mazda CX-5 trim has a history of consumer appeal

According to Edmunds, the Mazda CX-5 2.5 S Preferred is already the most popular model for the 2024 model year. It was also the best-selling trim for both the 2023 and 2022 model years. It’s worth noting that the average price paid for a 2024 2.5 S Preferred model is even lower compared to its predecessors.

Despite that, this trim is a carryover model that has lost no notable features. With that in mind, it makes sense that buyers would keep seeking out a trim that gives them exactly what they expect. If your budget can’t cover turbo power, a few hundred bucks to make the CX-5 even more enjoyable is money well spent.
