#5 Subaru BRZ

The Subaru BRZ brings the rear-wheel drive sports coupe to the masses. The BRZ is an affordable rear-wheel drive, manual transmission-equipped sports coupe with a 2.4L Subaru Boxer engine.

While the power under the hood won’t blow you away, its unbelievable handling around corners will keep you glued to your seat. That 228-horsepower engine is also capable of producing great fuel economy numbers with the BRZ getting 21 mpg city and 30 mpg highway.

With the BRZ Premium package, drivers get 18-inch aluminum wheels, blind spot monitoring, and a great sound system with smartphone integration. The BRZ starts around $28,595.

#4 Mazda MX-5 Miata

The Mazda MX-5 Miata is one of the best sports cars of all time. With the new 2023 Miata starting at $28,050, you can get behind the wheel of one of the most awarded sports cars in history without breaking the bank.

The Miata comes equipped with a 181 horsepower all-aluminum four-cylinder engine with a six-speed manual transmission. The Miata comes equipped with either a retractable hard top or a convertible top as well.

It is true that ever since its inception, this car has been a tad cramped on the inside for some passengers, but for those drivers who want a featherweight roadster with a heritage like no other, you can’t go wrong with a Miata.

#3 Toyota GR86

No, the Subaru BRZ and Toyota GR86 are not identical. They are, however, a joint venture between Subaru and Toyota, and are both manufactured at a Subaru plant, but they are not necessarily identical.

They are powered by the same 2.4L Subaru Boxer engine and come equipped with the same transmission, but the suspension systems are different. Toyota and Subaru differed on how they mounted some suspension parts making the BRZ a little more stable around corners and the Toyota GR86 a little looser in the turns.

The GR86 also comes with a slightly lower price tag at $27,900. If you test drive both the GR86 and the BRZ and can’t tell the difference, you can save some money by picking a GR86!

#2 Ford Mustang Coupe

America’s most popular sports car returns with a huge list of models and engine options. For 2023, the Ford Mustang base model comes equipped with a 2.3L EcoBoost four-cylinder engine with higher trim options coming with a classic V8 engine that can produce up to 470 horsepower with the Mach 1 model.

Regardless of the trim level you choose, the Mustang is always a great choice for budget sports car driving. There is a ton of available inventory, the drivetrains are extremely reliable, and for 2023, the safety ratings are at the top of their class. The Mustang can be found for as low as $27,770.

#1 Chevrolet Camaro Coupe

The Chevrolet Camaro is not long for this world with the current discontinuation date set for the 2024 model year. Before that date comes, you should take advantage of one of the cheapest sports cars on the market today.

Starting at around $26,400, the Chevrolet Camaro comes equipped with a 2.0L turbo four-cylinder engine but can also be had with a 3.6L V6, and a 6.2L V8. With some of the most available options on any muscle car today and a ton of inventory readily available, the 2023 Chevrolet Camaro is one of the best options for sports car driving on a budget.
