Once a car’s price tag gets much past $100,000, you can’t help but lump them into the “most expensive” list. After all, for most people, even $100,000 is too expensive. But beyond $100,000 cars, in fact, beyond $1 million cars, there is a stratosphere where cars costing $5 million or more are lurking. These are the most expensive of the most expensive. 

While you’ll recognize the brands, some of these cars are so unobtainable that they go unnoticed. Not when you actually see one, but because they’re so exclusive they’re never really seen. Sometimes familiarity inflates prices, but for these 11 cars, it just doesn’t matter.

11. Bugatti Mistral: $5.0 million

The price of the Bugatti Mistral makes it rare, but with production pegged at 99, that too means you’ll probably never see one in person. With cost comes power, like 1,577 hp from its 16-cylinder engine. Not surprisingly, the Mistral hypercar is already sold out.

10. Pagani Huayra Imola: $5.4 million

Looking more like a Group C race car, the Pagani Huayra Imola has the looks and power to be one. Its turbocharged V12 offers up over 800 hp and over 800 lb-ft of torque. Much rarer than the Bugatti Mistral, only five were ever built.

9. Bugatti Divo: $5.8 million

You’ll find a few Bugattis on this exclusive list, besides the Mistral and Divo. Similar to a Chiron, it packs the same 1,500 hp but is faster based mostly on aerodynamics, and weight reduction. Bugatti will build just 40 examples.

8. Spyros Panopoulos Automotive Chaos: $6.4 million

You may not know the brand, but you’ll forever remember the Chaos’ 2,000 hp. SP Automotive, located in Greece, is a large company spanning automotive, aviation, aerospace, and medical technology and design. Its Chaos boasts a twin-turbo 4.0-liter V10 to get that figure. You say that’s not enough power? Go for the 3,000 hp version, but you’ll need $14.4 million to secure one.

7. Pagani Codalunga: $7.4 million

Designwise the Pagani Codalunga is a throwback to the 1960s. The Codalunga’s clean appearance hides a turbocharged 6.0-liter V12 with 829 hp and 809 lb-ft of torque. If you’ve never seen the cabin, it has a Jules Verne quality to it. 

6. Mercedes Maybach Exelero: $8.0 million

What sets the Exelero apart from the others on this list is that it’s a more luxury touring car than a racer. Unfortunately, Mercedes-Benz made only one, back in 2004. It runs the Maybach twin-turbo V12 at 690 hp, launching it to speeds over 200 mph.

5. Bugatti Centodieci: $9.0 million

One of the newest Bugattis, production will be held to only 10 Centodiecis. Especially the fascia harkens back to the 1991 Bugatti EB110, the first model of the revived brand. It features a version of the W16, this time quad-turbocharged. 

4. Bugatti Chiron Profilée: $10.8

While Bugatti advertised it would make a few of these unique variants of the Chiron, this ended up as the only one. So it is a 1-of-1. Differences between the Profilée and a standard Chiron are in body mods and the spoiler. 

3. Rolls-Royce Sweptail: $12.8 million

Another one-off is the Rolls-Royce Sweptail. Debuting in 2017, it helped convey future design directions along with displaying a formal Brutalist-like presence only top-of-the-line Rollers can flaunt. 

2. Bugatti La Voiture Noire: $13.4 million

Inspired by Jean Bugatti’s Type 57 SC Atlantic, this is the most expensive Bug made, at least so far. Powering the La Voiture Noire is a W16 at 8.0 liters, punching out just under 1,500 hp. It, like the Chiron Profilée, is the only one Bugatti made.

1. Rolls-Royce Boat Tail: $28 million

Building upon its 2017 Sweptail, the Boat Tail is the most expensive car in 2023. The butterfly wood deck trunk features a wine cooler on one side, and a dinnerplate and utensil hosting suite on the other. That elegant boat decking carries into the cabin, offsetting the two-tone leather accents.
