Most Fuel-Efficient and Safest Vehicles for 2022, Says Forbes
Striking a balance between fuel economy and safety is not easy for automakers like General Motors to accomplish. Further, consumers then have a difficult decision between big, safer vehicles and smaller, more economical cars. Forbes made a list of their picks for the safest and most fuel-efficient vehicles available in 2022.
The list of most fuel-efficient and safest cars is long, but that isn’t a bad thing
Having options is a good thing. Forbes’ list includes compact sedans, hatchbacks, SUVs, and crossovers. Additionally, some of the cars on the list incorporate all-wheel drive (AWD), which notoriously drops fuel efficiency. As a result, you can still buy a vehicle with a sure-footed AWD system and not suffer at the pump.

2022 Toyota Corolla Hatchback gets IIHS Top Safety Pick and impressive fuel economy
The 2022 Toyota Corolla Hatchback combines the utility of a hatchback with the impressive credentials of the Corolla line. Further, the Toyota model earned the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) Top Safety Picks+. Consumer Reports also reported that the 2022 Toyota Corolla Hatchback earned good ratings in every individual crash section, including front, side, and rear crash.
In addition to top safety awards, Forbes reported fuel efficiency of 32 mpg in the city and 41 mpg at highway speeds. That means that the hatchback will save money on fuel and do so safely. Despite these impressive results, Consumer Reports recommends avoiding the 2022 Toyota Corolla Hatchback, suggesting that people buy a Subaru Impreza instead.
2022 Chevrolet Trailblazer gets a handsome design refresh, top safety awards, and respectable fuel efficiency for an SUV
With a small suite of available turbocharged engines, the 2022 Chevrolet Trailblazer achieves admirable fuel efficiency. Specifically, the Chevrolet Trailblazer accomplished a reported 29 mpg in the city and 33 mpg at highway speeds. Those numbers are quite impressive for an SUV of any size, and the Trailblazer isn’t even the smallest SUV in the Chevrolet lineup.
On top of excellent fuel economy for an SUV, the Chevrolet Trailblazer also received an IIHS Top Safety Pick+ rating. However, while the 2022 Toyota Corolla Hatchback failed to receive a Consumer Reports recommendation, the 2022 Chevrolet Trailblazer succeeded.
