A luxury division of the South Korean Hyundai brand, Genesis offers a variety of premium sedans and SUVs to consumers. One SUV in the Genesis lineup is the GV70 which is offered as both a regular gasoline-based SUV and an EV. Looking specifically at the gas-powered version, consumers seem to be selecting the base model more often. Here’s a look at the different Genesis GV70 trims have to offer. 

A look at the 2023 Genesis GV70 trims

The 2023 Genesis GV70 is a compact luxury SUV that gives rivals like the BMW X3 and the Volvo XC60 a run for their money and at a cheaper price to boot. There are two trim levels available on the Gv70, including the baseline 2.5T AWD trim and the upper level 3.5T AWD trim. 

Genesis offers the 2.5T trim in four different variations, including the Base, Select, Advanced, and Sport Prestige. Genesis starts the 2.5T Base package at $43,150, the 2.5T Select package at $46,900, the 2.5T Advanced package at $51,800, and the 2.5T Sport Prestige package at 55,950.  

In addition, the upper level 3.5T trim is available in three different variations, including Sport, Sport Advanced, and Sport Prestige. Genesis starts the 3.5T Sport package at $55,250, the 3.5T Sport Advanced package at $60,200, and the 3.5T Sport Prestige package at $65,150.

Here’s why consumers gravitate toward the Genesis GV70 base trim 

Looking under the hood of these two vehicles, consumers will find a more powerful engine in the 3.5T trim, as it features a 3.5L V6 engine that produces 375 hp. In contrast, the 2.5T trim only sports a 2.5L four-cylinder engine that makes 300 hp. Despite the additional power, performance, and overall features that the 3.5T trim provides, the majority of consumers surprisingly choose the 2.5T over the 3.5T. 

According to Edmunds, the 2.5T GV70 trim was the most popular trim level among consumers in both the 2023 and 2022 model years. In addition, the car experts at Edmunds recommend consumers who are looking at getting a Genesis GV70 to go with the 2.5T trim, which is the Select package for a starting price of $46,900. 

While the extra luxuries and power that the 3.5T trim would be a nice bonus, these features really aren’t worth the extra cash for the majority of consumers as the most affordable 3.5T trim with the Sport package starts at $55,250. Plus, upgrading to the Select package on the 2.5T trim still provides consumers with a ton of top features like a power-tilt steering wheel, a panoramic sunroof, ventilated front seats, and more for almost $10,000 less than the starting 3.5T package level. 

The 2024 Genesis GV70 is coming this fall 

The 2023 GV70 model has been a hit for Genesis. Thus, it’s no surprise that the 2024 GV70 is set to release in the fall of 2023. The 2024 model year will follow the same trim level and package options as the 2023 model year. However, there are some upgrades coming to the 2024 model year, starting with upgraded brakes for both the 2.5T and the 3.5T trim levels. 

In addition to the upgraded braking system, the 2024 2.5T Sport Prestige will come standard with ventilated front seats, manual rear door window shades, a premium Lexicon stereo system, and a remote parking feature. Upgrades to the 3.5T trim level on all package levels include an upgraded collision-avoidance system, adaptive cruise control with a lane-centering feature, and onboard Wi-Fi. 

Only time will tell if the introduction of more standard features to the 3.5T trim level will have more consumers choosing the upper level 2024 Genesis GV70 trim rather than the base trim level like in years past.
