Gasoline-powered cars are on the way out, and EVs are the future. There is something for everyone with a variety of electric vehicles like electric trucks, electric SUVs, and electric supercars in the news every day. Check out some of the most popular electric cars that are supposed to hit the market this year (looking at you, Tesla Cybertruck).

The BMW iX xDrive50, Cadillac Lyriq, and Canoo Lifestyle Electric Vehicle

According to this comprehensive list by Electrek, there are 22 electric vehicles ready for a 2022 release. The first up is the BMW iX xDrive50. BMW calls this an “electric sports activity vehicle,” which isn’t quite an SUV but bigger than a sedan. The expected MSRP of the BMW iX xDrive50 is around $82,00, making it a luxury electric sports sedan. It is expected to have 300 miles of range.

The Cadillac Lyriq is a highly-anticipated first electric vehicle release from Cadillac. The Lyriq is full of tech features, safety features, and a new infotainment system aiming its sights on Tesla. It should be around $59,000 to start and deliver sometime in 2022.

The Canoo Lifestyle Vehicle might not be as popular as the first two, but Canoo might be a household name eventually. The lifestyle vehicle is called a “loft on wheels” and has room for two to seven people. The MSRP starts at $35,00 and is slated for launch at the end of 2022.

Electric vehicle options like the Fisker Ocean, Ford F-150 Lightning, and Genesis GV60

The Fisker Ocean is supposed to have a 250-mile range and start at $38,000. It was first announced back in 2019 and has been revamped for an actual market release this time around. It still qualifies for the federal tax credit, too. Deliveries for the Fisker Ocean are slated for the end of 2022.

Possibly the most popular electric vehicle on the list is the Ford F-150 Lightning electric truck. Ford has said there are over 200,000 existing reservations for the truck, which is over three years of production. Ford is working hard at getting that production up and running, hopefully starting deliveries in the spring. The Lightning has a 230-mile range and starts at just under $40,000.

The Genesis GV60 is the brand’s first dedicated EV, and much of the information has not been confirmed yet. It is expected to have around 280 miles of range, followed by some other options. The GV60 is scheduled for spring of 2022.

Don’t forget the GMC Hummer EV Pickup, Hyundai IONIQ5, and Kia EV6

The GMC Hummer EV Pickup (aka the EV³ˣ) actually rolled off the production line just recently. The Hummer EV is around $100,000 and has a wild range, plus over 1,000 hp. Like the Lightning, the Hummer has been so popular it is sold out. A few varieties are hitting the streets this year, while more affordable options are scheduled for down the line.

From Hyundai, the new IONIQ5 EV is supposed to be under $40,000 for the standard range version. An all-wheel drive Limited Trim is priced at around $55,000 and is coming to the U.S. sometime this year after being on sale in Europe already.

The Kia EV6 is similar to the IONIQ5. It is the start of Kia’s move toward an electric lineup and already has pretty good reviews. The Kia EV6 has up to 310 miles of range, and an anticipate price of around $45,000. While some information is yet to be confirmed, the EV6 is expected to go on sale in early 2022.

The Lucid Air Pure, Lotus “Type 132” SUV, and Mazda MX-30 EV

The Lucid Air Pure is sending three trims out into the wild in 2022. The top-tier Lucid Air Dream Edition has already hit the streets, and Lucid plans to deliver 520 more vehicles soon enough. Priced at around $169,000, it is a major rival for Tesla’s Model S Plaid. The less expensive versions of the most popular electric vehicle from Lucid are expected in 2022 sometime.

The Lotus “Type 132” SUV is mostly a mystery for now. It is supposed to be on a lightweight chassis and have a real name, though the automaker hasn’t said more. It is slated for Spring of 2022.

Another SUV hitting the roads this year is the Mazda MX-30. This will be the first electric vehicle for Mazda, priced at around $34,000 initially. It is eligable for the federal tax credit, which means this is a pretty affordable option. Unfortunately, it only has about 100 miles of range from the 35.5 kWh battery pack. It is on sale now.

Some exciting options like the Mercedes-Benz EQE, Rivian R1S, and Toyota bZ4X

The Mercedes-Benz EQE is a midsize sedan slated to arrive with the new luxury EQS sometime soon. It offers around 410 miles and 292 hp from the single RWD motor. It looks a lot like a watered-down version of the EQS. Pricing is not out yet, but you can expect a luxury price tag for the vehicle arriving in 2022.

Another SUV option is the Rivian R1S, following the R1T electric truck. Electrek actually chose the R1T as the EV of the year, which means the R1S has big shoes to fill. Rivian started delivering this month, but more trim levels are slated for next year. With 316 miles of range, you can expect to see more of these soon.

The Toyota bZ4X has been making a big splash since Toyota announced one of its first electric vehicles in recent years. After the Prius, Toyota basically turned its back on electric vehicles. However, the Toyota bZ4X is the start of the brand’s new “beyond zero” lineup of EVs. It is supposed to have around 250 miles of range, with more trim levels coming soon. It is slated for a mid-2022 release.
