Most Reliable Heavy Duty Truck Isn’t a Ford or Ram, but It’s Tougher
For heavy duty pickup trucks, a crucial element is reliability. It’s ideal to have one that you can count on to consistently get the job done. The Ford Super Duty, with the F-250, F-350, and F-450, is often regarded as the best in the segment. The Ram 2500 and 3500 are impressive, too. However, the most reliable heavy duty truck isn’t a Ford or Ram, says J.D. Power. It’s the Chevy Silverado HD. The 2500 and 3500 HD models proved to be tougher in the 2023 Vehicle Dependability Study.
Chevy Silverado HD is the most reliable heavy duty pickup truck, says JD Power
When automotive shoppers choose which heavy duty pickup truck to get, reliability is an important consideration. A reliable truck means fewer problems, which translates to less costly repairs. There’s also the convenience factor of not having to get a truck repaired as often. Other benefits include longevity, safety, and optimal performance.
And for the heavy duty truck reliability, the best model isn’t a Ford Super Duty or a Ram, according to J.D. Power. It’s the Chevrolet Silverado HD.
Earlier this year, J.D. Power revealed the 2023 Vehicle Dependability Study, which honors the most reliable models for each vehicle segment. For the heavy duty truck segment, the Chevy Silverado HD is the top model for reliability. Conversely, the data analytics company didn’t award the Ford Super Duty or any Ram heavy duty trucks for dependability.
Chevy Silverado HD had good results in JD Power Vehicle Dependability Study
The annual J.D. Power Vehicle Dependability Study is closely watched in the automotive industry. With decades of experience evaluating vehicles, the data analytics company is one of the most trusted authorities for automotive reliability evaluations.
J.D. Power named the Chevy Silverado HD the most reliable heavy duty pickup truck because it had good results in the 2023 Vehicle Dependability Study. Over the previous 12 months, it collected thousands of surveys from vehicle owners. These owners identified various problem areas. This includes interior, exterior, controls, features, driving experience, climate system, powertrain, and driving assistance.
The Chevy Silverado 2500 and 3500 HD had fewer problems than other heavy duty trucks such as the Ford F-250, F-350, and F-450 Super Duty models, as well as the Ram 2500 and 3500. Consequently, J.D. Power gave it the title of the most reliable heavy duty truck.
Other Chevrolet models honored for high-level reliability
The Silverado HD wasn’t the only Chevrolet model honored by J.D. Power for outstanding dependability. The data analytics company named the Tahoe the most dependable large SUV, while the Blazer achieved the top spot for two-row midsize SUV reliability.
Also, a couple of Chevy models earned second-place spots: Malibu (midsize car) and Colorado (midsize truck). Additionally, the Trax placed third for the subcompact SUV segment.
The Chevy Silverado HD, with the 2500 and 3500 HD, is a heavy duty truck with excellent reliability, as shown by the 2023 Vehicle Dependability Study. J.D. Power honored the Silverado HD with the most reliable heavy duty truck award, beating out the Ford Super Duty and models from Ram.
