Most Reliable Large SUV Isn’t a Toyota, says JD Power
Toyota is legendary for its high-level reliability, with vehicles running strong for many miles and years. The Japanese automaker offers a lineup of dependable vehicles, including the Sequoia full-size SUV. However, according to J.D. Power, the most reliable large SUV isn’t the 2023 Toyota Sequoia. It’s the 2023 Chevy Tahoe.
2023 Chevy Tahoe is the most reliable full-size SUV, according to JD Power
When deciding which large SUV to buy, reliability is a crucial factor to consider. A dependable SUV is less likely to have frequent and severe repairs, resulting in lower ownership costs. There are also fewer hassles of having to take your vehicle to a service center. Reliability also has advantages for optimal performance and safety. Another benefit is longevity.
And for full-size SUV reliability, the best model isn’t the 2023 Toyota Sequoia, according to J.D. Power. The most reliable large SUV is the 2023 Chevy Tahoe.
The honor for the Tahoe follows the release of the 2023 J.D. Power Vehicle Dependability Study (VDS) earlier this year, which recognizes the most reliable models for each vehicle segment. The Tahoe achieved the top spot for the full-size SUV segment, while the GMC Yukon earned second place. However, the Toyota Sequoia wasn’t honored.
Chevrolet Tahoe had minimal problems in Vehicle Dependability Study
The reason why the 2023 Chevrolet Tahoe achieved the honor of the most reliable large SUV is that it had good results in the J.D. Power Vehicle Dependability Study. For the VDS, J.D. Power received thousands of surveys from vehicle owners, including for models in the full-size SUV segment. These owners identified various problem areas, including the powertrain, driving experience, interior, exterior, driving assistance, infotainment, climate system, controls, features, and seats.
The Tahoe had the least number of issues in these problem areas. Consequently, J.D. Power named it the most reliable large SUV, topping the Toyota Sequoia, GMC Yukon, and all other models in the segment.
In addition to the Tahoe, other Chevrolet vehicles were honored in the Vehicle Dependability Study. This includes the Blazer, which earned the top spot for the two-row midsize SUV segment. Also, the Silverado HD was named the most reliable large heavy-duty pickup truck. There are also a couple of second-place finishes for Chevy — the Colorado (midsize pickup truck) and the Malibu (midsize sedan). Plus, the Trax achieved third place in the subcompact SUV segment.
What’s new for the 2023 Tahoe?
While primarily a carryover model, the 2023 Tahoe has some notable additions for the new model year. This includes Super Cruise, which provides hands-free driving assistance on highways for changing lanes and trailering. Super Cruise compliments the Tahoe’s other driving assistance technologies, such as automatic emergency braking, front pedestrian braking, forward collision alert, lane keep assist, and automatic high beams.
There are also new paint color options: Sterling Gray Metallic, Silver Sage Metallic, and Radiant Red Tintcoat. Also, some of the trims offer a new black grille with “CHEVROLET” lettering.
The 2023 Chevy Tahoe is a full-size SUV with high-level reliability. It beats all other large SUVs on the J.D. Power most reliable list, including the 2023 Toyota Sequoia.
