Tenured sports cars like the Chevrolet Corvette and Porsche 911 often find themselves in a luxury performance category, away from more affordable models like the Ford Mustang. However, the titans of premium-performance sports cars aren’t the most reliable options. Instead, the Audi TT Convertible and TT Coupe snagged top accolades for most reliable luxury sports car, ahead of the 911, Corvette, and other German models like the BMW Z4. 

Which luxury sports car is most reliable?

The Audi TT Convertible is one of the most reliable luxury sports cars on the market. According to iSeeCars data, the TT Convertible is No. 1 in the segment and among reliable luxury drop-tops.

Furthermore, the TT Convertible’s near-perfect 9.9 out of 10.0 puts it well ahead of its closest competitor, the BMW Z4. It doesn’t stop there, either; the TT snagged the No. 3 spot among the best luxury convertibles overall, just behind the Chevrolet Corvette and Porsche 911. Still, the TT’s higher reliability scores and lower starting price makes it a viable alternative to the mighty Chevy and Porsche models.  

How long do Audi TTs usually last?

A late-model Audi TT has the potential to last well over 100,000 to 150,000 miles with proper care and maintenance. The TT’s turbocharged 2.0L inline four-cylinder engine is typically a drama-free mill. According to Car Complaints, 2020, 2019, and 2018 models have no owner-reported issues.

Moreover, RepairPal says that the TT’s most common issue is a flasher relay failure. The faulty relay could lead to erratic turn signals, an irritating but not catastrophic issue. However, 22 owners have reported check engine lights due to O2 sensor faults, vacuum leaks, or issues with catalytic converters. Still, the Audi TT has the potential to be relatively easy to live with as far as luxury sports cars go. 

Why was the Audi TT discontinued?

Audi announced that the TT and TT Convertible would leave the luxury sports car segment after the 2023 model year. Further, the TT’s reason for discontinuation is similar to other small sports cars; the popularity of SUVs and alternative energy vehicles leaves little room for all-smiles sports coupes and convertibles.

However, the TT isn’t alone; the Dodge Challenger and Chevrolet Camaro are also heading out of production. Still, each sports car nameplate could return on a hybridized or electrified platform.
