When you think of reliable SUVs options from Toyota or Honda probably come to mind. Those brands do have a great reputation for durable vehicles. However, there’s a new champ in town. The 2024 Chevrolet Equinox is the most reliable SUV. 

The most reliable SUV is the 2024 Chevy Equinox 

Surprise, the most reliable SUV is the 2024 Chevrolet Equinox. This is surprising because the Toyota 4Runner and Honda CR-V are often expected to be the best. Those SUVs do have an excellent reputation for lasting forever, though. 

U.S.News provided a list of the most reliable SUVs for 2024. The 2024 Equinox earned a score of 90 out of 100 from J.D.Power. I’ve been obsessed with trucks and SUVs for a long time, and I’ve never seen a score this high. 

Anything between 70 and 80 is average, scores between 81 and 90 are above average, and scores between 91 and 100 are best. The Equinox is only one point away from being placed in the best category. 

The 2024 Honda CR-V earned an 84, which is solid. The 2024 Toyota 4Runner earned an 86, which is very respectable.

Each score is based on feedback from actual drivers. J.D.Power sends out surveys to thousands of vehicle owners, allowing them to report any problems they’ve faced with three-year-old vehicles. 

Ratings are based on the type and number of problems owners face. Everything from the paint, electronics, engine, transmission, interior, and more is included. A lower amount of problems leads to a higher score. 

An average Chevrolet Equinox model is expected to make it over 200,000 with proper care and regular maintenance. This seems low since the 4Runner has examples that have surpassed 600,000 miles. 

But perhaps the Equinox has been improving over the past few years to snag the most reliable SUV award. In 2015, the Equinox only had a score of 82.
