There might be a monopoly when it comes to reliable SUVs. One automaker is leading the charge by building the top three most reliable SUV engines. They have engines that are incredibly durable and long-lasting. 

What are the three most reliable SUV engines  

The top three most reliable SUV engines are found in the Toyota 4Runner, Toyota Highlander, and the Lexus GX. These models don’t come from the same brand, but they do fall under the same automaker. 

Lexus and Toyota are both owned by the Toyota Motor Corporation. They share tons of parts, equipment, and features. However, Lexus is considered to be a luxury brand and uses more expensive materials. 

Anyways, the 2024 Toyota 4Runner has a reliability rating of 86 out of 100 from J.D.Power. This is an above-average score and it’s great. 

Scores between 70 and 80 are average while anything between 81 and 100 is above average. Ratings between 91 and 100 are best. The reliable 4.0-liter V6 engine cranks out 270 hp and 278 lb-ft of torque. An average 4Runner can last over 300,000 and even 400,000 miles. 

The Toyota Highlander has an average reliability score of 79. However, it has a bulletproof engine. The turbocharged 2.4-liter four-cylinder engine provides 265 hp and 310 lb-ft of torque.

Because it has one of the most reliable SUV engines, you can expect the average Highlander to last between 300,000 and 350,000 miles. 

Then the 2024 Lexus GX rolls in with a reliability rating of 89 out of 100, which is extremely high. It’s close to entering the highest bracket. 

The standard 4.6-liter V8 engine generates 301 hp and 329 lb-ft of torque. An average Lexus GX model is expected to last just over 300,000 miles. 

Just remember that proper care and regular maintenance are the keys to longevity.
