Plot twist alert! You may feel like the most reliable three-row SUV from the past five years is the Toyota Sequoia or the Ford Expedition. These are good guesses, but the winter is actually the Chevrolet Tahoe.

The Chevy Tahoe is the most reliable three-row SUV from the past five years

Give it up for the Chevy Tahoe for being the most reliable three-row SUV from the past five years. Beating the Toyota Sequoia or Ford Expedition is difficult.

To discover how SUVs hold up, J.D.Power launched a study based on driver feedback after owning SUVs for three years.

It sent out surveys, allowing drivers to report any problems they experienced. The survey covers 184 potentially problematic areas including the paint, electronics, interior quality, performance, transmission, and more.

The Tahoe had the least amount of problems reported in 2020, 2021, 2023, and 2014. Because of this report is based on SUVs after three years of ownership, the running Tahoe models are from 2017, 2018, 2020, and 2021.

Keep that in mind if you’re in the market for a used SUV. Also, the Ford Expedition was the most reliable option in 2019, and the Chevy Suburban won in 2022.

Also, according to J.D.Power, the 2024 Tahoe has a reliability rating of 81 out of 100, which is great. Scores between 70 and 80 are average, anything between 81 and 90 is above average, and scores between 91 and 100 are best.

The 2024 Expedition earned a 74, which is seven points behind the Tahoe. The 2024 Suburban earned a 78, so it’s only three points behind.

An average Tahoe model is expected to last between 250,000 to 300,000 miles. A few models have surpassed 300,000 miles but regular care and proper maintenance are the key to survival.

If you drive about 15,000 miles per year then your Tahoe could provide about 17 to 20 years of service on the road. The most reliable three-row SUV could be a family staple for generations.
